Flat Rock Elementary School

It’s official! Flat Rock Elementary earned an EXCELLENT rating on the South Carolina School Report Card! 💛

Behind that rating are children who keep trying, teachers who find one more way to help a lesson click, staff members who make students feel they belong, and families who partner with us every step of the way.

At our little school, we take a big responsibility to heart: to love, nurture, and educate every child to the best of our ability. We see that work every day in small victories, growing confidence, and the joy of a student realizing, “I can do this.”

Our vision this year reminds us that we have 180 days to make a difference in the lives of our students. Every day is an opportunity to help a child grow, feel valued, and see what’s possible.

Today, we’re celebrating this recognition and the people whose care and commitment make it possible. We’re proud of our Flat Rock family and grateful for another day to make a difference. 💛

☕🍂 On September 29, our kindergarten classrooms were brewing up some fun for National Coffee Day! Mrs. Hall and Mrs. Loftis transformed their rooms into cozy coffee shops where students enjoyed fall refreshers, cake pops, donuts, and chocolaty drinks. The sweetest little café crew around! 🤎✨

Happy Instructional Coach Day to our own Carly Herron! She is simply the very best, and we are so thankful she's part of our school family.

Mrs. Dutton’s 5th grade students put their math thinking to work as they explored division using area model trays and base ten blocks. Hands-on models helped students make sense of the process, visualize their thinking, and build a deeper understanding of division! 🧮✨

➕✏️ OGAP in Action in 1st Grade!

Our 1st grade teachers are putting their summer OGAP (Ongoing Assessment Project) training into practice! 🌟 OGAP is a research-based approach that helps teachers better understand how students think about math and use that thinking to guide instruction.

As a team, our 1st grade teachers set a goal to intentionally integrate OGAP strategies into their daily math blocks. Students have been building, creating, exploring, and making sense of math through manipulatives, bead sticks, number paths, shapes, graphs, and partitioning into halves and fourths. 🧮💡

We love seeing professional learning turn into meaningful, hands-on learning for our students! 💙
