Congratulations to ECE assistant professor Dr. Junming Diao, associate professor Dr. Yu Luo, and former associate professor Dr. Chun-Hung Liu (PI) for being awarded an NSF Grant!

This award will support their research on “NeTS: Fundamentals of Integrated Sensing, Communication, and Computing for Mission-Critical Reconfigurable UAV Networks.”

The resulting platform will directly support disaster relief, environmental monitoring, intelligent transportation, and security-critical operations by enabling pop-up connectivity, survivor localization, damage mapping, and rapid, in-situ analytics when terrestrial backhaul is unavailable.

The team hopes to strengthen workforce development via an AI-enabled MRUN online summer school, integration with Summer Engineering Academies of Mississippi State University and the Mississippi Summer Transportation Institute, and tutorials at flagship IEEE venues. Coordinated outreach, including a Summer Bridge workshop and recruitment in partnership with student organizations (e.g., SWE, NSBE, SHPE), will broaden participation and provide hands-on UAV/ISAC learning experiences for K–12 and undergraduate students, translating research advances into lasting educational and societal benefits.

We are so proud of our faculty!

Congratulations to ISE professor Dr. Brian Smith (PI), ISE professor Dr. Lesley Strawderman, ISE assistant professor of practice John (Carver) Middleton, and Dr. Emily Wall from CAVS on receiving a $1.72 million NSF grant!

This award will support their research on “Skillbuilding for Technicians and Engineers Through Experiential Learning Communities.”

This project will focus on advancing innovative approaches to undergraduate STEM education through meaningful experiential learning opportunities that strengthen the skills and capabilities of future technicians and engineers. Together, the interdisciplinary team will work to create impactful learning communities that connect students with hands-on experiences and better prepare them for successful careers in STEM.

We are so proud of our faculty!

We're so glad our students are back!
Have a wonderful Fall semester!

This is (ladies from left to right) Sophia Caviness, Maggie Green, Simran Dhaliwal, and Katie Shields, all seniors in biomedical engineering. They participated in the UMEEDD (UMMC-MSU Engineering Excellence in Device Development) internship through the SURE (Summer Undergraduate Research Experience) program at UMMC (University of Mississippi Medical Center).

We love showing off our students in their co-ops and internships.

During eight weeks this summer, they worked alongside Dr. Matthew Kutcher, MD, MS and gained firsthand experience researching a novel technique to measure platelet respiration and aggregation simultaneously to better understand the effects of coagulation inhibitors in bleeding patients. Building on this experience, the team will continue their work during Senior Design by developing and improving measurement tools to streamline data collection and support future phases of the research.

Over 65% of our undergrads co-op or intern, allowing them to work alongside professionals, gain industry experience and build a valuable network that will help launch their careers while earning money at the same time. Students graduate with a head-start in their industry. Find your future with the Bagley College of Engineering!

Congratulations to ECE associate professor Dr. Yu Luo on receiving an NSF Grant!

This award will support Dr. Luo’s research on “Collaborative Research: SaTC 2.0: RES: Modeling and Mitigating Reflective Backscatter Side-Channel Attacks (ReBac) in Everyday Devices.”

This project has the potential to catalyze transformative change in the design of billions of consumer and industrial devices, strengthening privacy and system integrity.

We are so proud of our faculty!

Congratulations to ISE assistant professor Dr. Seunghan Lee on receiving the NSF Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Award from the National Science Foundation (NSF)!

The NSF CAREER Award is one of the most prestigious honors recognizing outstanding early-career faculty who demonstrate exceptional potential for both research and education.

This award will support Dr. Lee’s research on “An AI-Driven Simulation Framework for Human Autonomy Planning, Adaptive Control, and Immersive Virtual Reality Training,” advancing innovative work in human autonomy, AI, and virtual reality. This project has the potential to make significant contributions to both fundamental knowledge and practical applications while providing valuable opportunities for student education and research.

We are so proud of our faculty!
