We were honored to welcome Brown University historian Michael Vorenberg to Mississippi State for a conversation with MSU Williams Chair Susannah J. Ural about his award-winning book, Lincoln’s Peace: The Struggle to End the American Civil War.

A special thank you to President Mark E. Keenum and Dean Lis Keith for welcoming Dr. Vorenberg to campus and joining us for this special evening of scholarship and conversation.

We had a wonderful afternoon honoring our 2025 MSU Authors and celebrating their contributions to scholarship and research.

Following the ceremony and book signing, we enjoyed a wonderful evening at our Welcome Back Reception, connecting with colleagues, welcoming new faculty, and celebrating the start of a new academic year.

A special thank you to Cathy Austin, Preston Salisbury, Merri Gwin, and Trent Cochran for all of their help in coordinating this special event!

Join us Sept. 29 for the 2026 Frank and Virginia Williams Lecture on Abraham Lincoln and Civil War Studies, featuring Brown University historian Dr. Michael Vorenberg.
Vorenberg will discuss his award-winning book, Lincoln’s Peace: The Struggle to End the American Civil War, exploring Lincoln’s vision for ending the Civil War, how that vision evolved after his assassination, and the war’s multiple endings and lasting impact on how Americans remember the conflict.

Parking update: Due to ongoing campus infrastructure improvements, visitors may park in the D2 lot behind the Industrial Education Building or directly behind the Longest Health Center. Handicap-accessible parking is available in the Hand Lab parking lot. MSU gates will lift at 5:30 p.m. to make navigating campus easier for event attendees.
