A big weekend for AMEC at the American Academy of Forensic Sciences conference in New Orleans!
AMEC alumna SJ Smith-Escudero presented a repository case study, and Dr. Jesse Goliath received the Mosaic Award. The Mosaic Award is an honor celebrating outstanding contributions to the Academy and the strength that diversity brings to forensic teams and research.

Join us November 14th at 4pm in Old Main 1050 for a lecture by Dr. Jessica Juarez!
Dr. Juarez will be kicking off the Mountain, Swamp and Beach conference by delivering the first Afternoon Anthropology lecture. She is an assistant professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Northern Michigan and has experience working as a forensic anthropologist in Medical Examiner’s Offices and with DPAA (The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency). Her research interests include: understanding taphonomic effects of cold climates on skeletal and soft tissues; the effects of toxicological release to the soil and necrobiome during decomposition; aberrant bone formation as a result of biological responses to trauma in skeletal and soft tissue; and exploring ways to provide opportunities for BIPOC, women, and other underrepresented scientists to contribute to the scientific community.
