MSU Interim Vice President of the Office of Research and Economic Development, Dr. Scott Willard and MSU Director of the Office of Technology Management, John Walters joined Dr. Colleen Scott as she received the prestigious Bayh-Dole 2026 American Innovator Award in Washington, DC on June 3rd. This is one of the nation’s most prestigious honors given annually to researchers whose federally funded work leads to real-world impact.
Dr. Scott was nominated by U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith for her patented research developing a shortwave infrared (SWIR) dye for the visualization of cancer cells. Her award-winning technology enables safe, high-resolution deep tissue visualization by operating at lower energy levels than traditional imaging methods. Her technology is geared to selectively target cancer cells, allowing clinicians to more clearly identify tumor boundaries.
MSU's Office of Research and Economic Development celebrates Dr. Scott on this notable accomplishment.
