Yes, those are worms! Our GrOW students have been participating in an introduction to soil science as they work to take care of the school gardens and get them ready for fall plantings. They've worked to harvest, water and clean out beds as they took a closer look at soils.

No lesson on soil layers is complete without decomposers, and a few night crawlers and red worms made it into the classroom for study.

SOCSD has made a change to pedestrian access to Partnership Middle School for the 2026-2027 school year because of the adjacent construction zone. All walkers from George Perry Street and the Mississippi State campus should use the existing sidewalk access on the southwest entrance to Partnership School campus. The northwest entrance near the SMART bus stop is closed due to construction. Please see the attached map to view access.

Partnership parents --
Due to a loss of water on campus, Partnership Middle School will dismiss early today (Tuesday, August 4). Parents may begin to pick up students at 9:45am. Bus transportation will be available to transport students as soon as possible.

During the construction process, a main water line was cut, which has caused a loss of pressure and water for the school, impacting the use of restrooms and cafeteria. Thank you for your patience as we address the water concerns.

Please let us know if you have any questions,

A tasty way to learn about physical properties! We stopped by Ms. Parks' 7th grade science class for Lab day on Thursday. Students learned about how a favorite snack food is made, and then participated in a hands-on lab exercise to observe and record the differences between regular Oreos and the Double Stuff variety based on their physical properties.

Students followed the instructions in their lab brief to chart a comparison between the two cookie varieties by observing properties with their magnifying lenses, measuring the height and diameter of both, and weighing the cookies with and without their filling. Of course, they ended their lab by charting the TASTE of the cookies as well!

The hands-on activity let students put their lessons on physical properties into practice with real objects, while writing their observations and using math skills from last year like taking measurements and calculating averages.

Moving the classroom outside! A warm day didn't stop our 6th grade scientists in Ms. Jones' class from exploring beside the building. The interactive activity tasked students with listing as many living and non-living things they could find in just a few minutes outside. Students spotted a fire hydrant, construction vehicles, grass, trees, and we hear a snail made it to the list before they headed back inside to discuss their results. Keep exploring, Jackets!
