A little recap of our last two meetings🔥

Thank you to Todd Matthews and Rainer Nichols for joining FireDawgs for a meeting! It was awesome to hear about opportunities to burn with the MS Forestry Commission… and we also enjoyed discussing how fire seasonality affects vegetation growth for white-tailed deer🦌

Finally had our first burn of the year!

A huge “thank you” to Dr. Mark McConnell for taking FireDawgs to Prairie Wildlife a few weeks ago… it started off slow, which was perfect for our first-time burners! But of course we caught some good height a couple times😌

Thank you to everyone who showed up and helped out! We can’t wait for the next one🔥

📢 Introducing our Social Media Manager for the 25-26 school year. . . Emily Boyd!

This summer, Emily interned at a church in Salmon, Idaho. While she wasn’t specifically in a natural resources field, she still had the opportunity to explore the ecology of different ecosystem structures and species out West. Moreover, she was able to learn more about how both natural and prescribed fire can impact an ecosystem and inform management decisions.

When asked why she wanted to join FireDawgs, Emily said, “I wanted to learn more about prescribed fire because I felt like I wasn’t learning enough about it in my classes. I thought FireDawgs would be the perfect opportunity to gain experience with fire and gain a better understanding of how it can be used for wildlife management. Spoiler alert: FireDawgs fulfilled both of those expectations!”
