Thinking about opening up babysitting again. Not quite a daycare yet, but babysit for others who also struggle like me everyday. I was thinking for now, drop ins when available, date nights & overnights. Absolutely no sick children, as I have a at risk and still want to be cautious. Keep things sanitized and hand washing always. I understand the risks. The risks we take everyday, because we still have to live. Please, give me your advice. I'm honestly just a mom trying to survive these crazy times and feel for others too. Let me know 😁

Good Morning & Happy Tuesday! I just want to throw out a friendly reminder I'm offering $3 A hour babysitting! Yes! $3 A hour! Sounds spectacular right?! I know the difficulties of finding someone to watch your kiddos at a decent rate :) I do have a disabled daughter so I'm not always 100% available, but it never hurts to let me see what I can do for you! :)

We spend so much of our time accumulating wealth and security that we can far too easily miss out on those small opportunities with our families that actually make life worthwhile. Because we want to provide for our families, we find ourselves caught in a web of responsibilities like jobs, mortgages, soccer practices, dinners, and neighborhood meetings.

There is nothing wrong with that in and of itself. The problem arises when we allow those things and the anxiety surrounding them to take precedent over who they are there for in the first place. Don’t sell yourself short when it comes to the importance of your presence around your children. They crave your company and they thrive in your attention. Not false attention or focus where the weight of the family is on their shoulders but rather, real attention…no strings attached.

Tonight when it’s time for the kids to go to bed. Start a little earlier and be as fully present as you can with your children. Really look at them and allow yourself to delight in them again like you once did. Just by seeing them in this light and giving them your undivided attention, you will be giving them a gift worth far more than any portfolio. You will be giving them the gift of true security.

The next time your child acts like a bucking bronco, be encouraged that her spirit is strong. That’s a good thing. She will be less likely to follow the crowd or to get lost in the shuffle. Be heartened that she will make waves in this world instead of drowning in anonymity. I’m a firm believer that being strong-willed is not a bad thing. It takes a pretty strong will to make it in this world. Trust me. If you want your child to grow up and be a leader, a person of influence, you want her to be strong-willed.

That does not mean that we wink and smile when our kids misbehave. We show our children what choices they have and what choices they don’t have in this world. And we have firmly established boundaries and consequences in place for the choices that they make. But, we do our best not to take it personally when our children push back against us. Our job, after all, is not to break our child’s spirit. It is to show her how to harness it.

It’s like the old saying goes, give a man a fish and he’ll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he’ll never go hungry again. The same is true for our children…except it’s much harder to swallow. We don’t like to see our kids struggle and we love to see them do well. Combine that with the fact that our patience is worn thin before we even walk through the door in the evening and you have a stellar recipe for the “quick fix” syndrome. When our child is struggling with a puzzle, a math problem, or a socially sticky situation, we tend to want to jump in and give them the “right” answer. Many times, this is the worst thing we can do. Instead of being your child’s answer key, become a sounding board. Just ask questions. Expect some resistance at first, but persevere; their problems are just going to get harder. Your hope is to create the type of person who relishes the challenge of solving things on her own. Do you really want your 27 year old daughter calling you the night before her TPS reports are due, asking you for the answers?

Integrity occurs when your actions match your beliefs, and although that is a difficult path to be on, it is definitely worth it. Kids are watching your every move, like it or not. They pick up on the subtle ways you interact with others and your surroundings. If you preach to them about respecting others and then treat your grocery clerk with disdain, they will notice. If you lecture them about working hard in school and then you hardly work at your job, they will notice. Take a minute today to think about how you really want your kids to see you and then take the steps necessary to make that happen
