For 50 years, Stanwood Cooperative Preschool has been proud to be part of this incredible community—and one of our favorite traditions has always been walking in the Stanwood Parade!

These photos take us all the way back to 1986, when our preschool families were already filling the streets with smiles, laughter, and community spirit.

Generation after generation, we've had the privilege of watching children grow, families form lifelong friendships, and neighbors come together to celebrate what makes Stanwood so special.

As we celebrate our 50th anniversary, we're honored to continue this tradition and can't wait to wave to everyone at this year's parade. If you see us, be sure to say hello!

Can you believe it?!?!

SCP has been serving our community for 50 years!

Whether you were here in our earliest days or just a few years ago, you are an important part of the story we celebrate this year. As we mark 50 years of serving our community, we are filled with gratitude for every family, teacher, child, and volunteer who has helped shape Stanwood Cooperative Preschool into the special place it is today.

In 1976, our preschool opened its doors with just one classroom and 10 eager students. What began as a small group of families with a shared vision has grown into a thriving program serving five full classes.

But the true measure of our success has never been the number of classrooms or students. It has always been the people.

For five decades, parents have painted classrooms, repaired playgrounds, organized fundraisers, balanced budgets, washed toys, served on the board, planned celebrations, and spent countless hours volunteering alongside our teachers. Families have built lifelong friendships while giving their children a strong foundation for learning. Teachers have inspired curiosity, confidence, kindness, and a love of discovery that has stayed with generations of children long after they left our classrooms.

Because of our community, SCP has remained a place where children learn through play, parents learn alongside them, and a true sense of community is created.

As we celebrate this incredible milestone, we also look toward the future with excitement. New generations of families are joining our preschool each year, carrying forward the same cooperative spirit that has guided us for the past 50 years. Together, we will continue to grow, adapt, and provide a welcoming place where children can flourish and families can connect.

Thank you for being part of our story. Every child who laughed in our classrooms, every parent who volunteered their time, every teacher who shared their passion, and every family who believed in cooperative education has left a lasting mark on this preschool.

We are honored to celebrate this milestone with you and look forward to creating the next 50 years together.

SCP joins teachers and parents to create a stimulating, engaging and dynamic classroom for children to explore and experience. We believe that children learn best through hands-on, play based activities.

This week, families are heading to Iverson Spit Preserve

Date: Tuesday, June 16th
Time: 1:00pm
Address: 3 Iverson Road
Camano Island, WA 98282

Details: Meet in the parking lot for an easy 1 mile round trip hike! You cross small bridges, go through the woods and a hobbit trail full of treasures. Bring a snack to enjoy after the hike with friends on the beach. The weather has been great so the trail should be nice and dry. Hope to see you there!

Join us for a picnic and playdate at the park!

Our preschool families are getting together for some playground fun, and we'd love for other local families to join us. Bring a lunch, a blanket, and let the kids run, climb, and play while parents have a chance to chat and enjoy the sunshine.

Looking to get out of the house?!? Join us for a relaxed morning at the park with friends, old and new. We hope to see you there!

We have families with kiddos 18 months to 6 years old, lots of new friends to be made.

Our parents get together every week over the summer, at community sites throughout our area. Watch our page for the weekly meet-up notice.

Dolly Parton’s imagination library update!
In the news lately, you may have heard that the program has lost funding from Washington State.

We want to let you know that the Stanwood Camano Rotary Club will continue to fund the program 100%! We are committed to this fantastic early literacy program.

For 19 years, we have offered free books to kids birth through age 5 through Dolly Parton‘s Imagination Library. We will continue to offer this program to the newest little ones.

We fund the program through donations and grant writing. If you’re interested in donating, you may do so by check or on our website.
