State Representative, Pat Outman visited our office to present a well deserved award, to one of our amazing 4-H teen leaders. Way to go, Mary, and thank you so much, Pat!

Congratulations to Mary Nitengale on being named this year's Earl Peterson 4-H'er of the Year. After 12 years in 4-H, this recognition is well deserved, and I was glad to present her with a Special Tribute recognizing her accomplishment.
In just a few weeks, Mary will be heading to Kansas State University to pursue a degree in education. I wish her nothing but the best as she begins this next chapter, and I have no doubt she will be an amazing teacher.

If you're a parent with young kids, I'd encourage you to look into 4-H. It's about so much more than showing animals, and it teaches responsibility, dedication, leadership, and a strong work ethic. Those are qualities that will benefit young people for the rest of their lives, no matter what path they choose.

And thank you to Sunni Haglund and the MSU Extension for making the introduction and giving me the opportunity to recognize Mary's accomplishment. I also appreciate Sunni snapping this photo.

Join us Tuesday, August 18 at 6:00 p.m. for our first bioblitz at the Comden-Towle Model Forest! A bioblitz is a community science program where participants record as many species in a certain time and place as they can. A bioblitz will allow us to quickly gauge biodiversity and health of the Model Forest.

This is a great way to gain volunteer hours, learn how to identify all sorts of flora and fauna, and practice using the app iNaturalist. We will start with an iNaturalist crash course before using the app to record photo observations. We will end by helping each other identify our findings.

Please download the iNaturalist app and join our project in advance. To join, create a free iNaturalist account and scan the QR code on the flyer or visit https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/comden-towle-model-forest-bioblitz-august-2026. Another option is to search “Comden-Towle Model Forest BioBlitz August 2026” under the Projects tab on either the app or desktop version.

Snacks will be provided! All ages are welcome. Please dress for the weather.

RSVPs preferred. To RSVP, visit https://www.montcalmcd.org, email [email protected], or call 989-831-4212 x 2136.
