Presenting the Stanford Conservation Program's spring volunteer event:

A BioBlitz at Lagunita on Saturday, April 26th!

Are you curious about what lives in Lagunita? Have you wanted to become more familiar with the abundance of life just in our backyard here on campus? Want celebrate Earth Week with some exploration of the Lagunita basin?

A BioBlitz is a short period of biological surveying in a particular area, in which our volunteers will descend into the Lagunita basin and record as many species as we can! We’ll look through binoculars, under logs, and dip net in the water to see what plants, animals, and invertebrates we can find and identify to the species level. Join us for a morning of exploration in observance of Earth Week!

Join us after surveying for games and art focused on the biodiversity of Lagunita!

This event will take place from 9 to 11am on Saturday, April 26th, and we will meet at the Lagunita BBQ pit. Come with your friends, wear sturdy shoes, bring water, and let's explore Lagunita!

RSVP using the link in our bio.

Please reach out to John ([email protected]) with any questions.

Our second volunteer event of the quarter is coming up on Saturday, February 8th: join us at the Deer Creek conservation easement and help us plant trees and shrubs along the creek on February 8th from 9am to 12pm! We are continuing our work restoring the riparian corridor for wildlife, including California red-legged frog.

The planting site is located at 3475 Deer Creek Road. Please see the RSVP form (linked in bio) for transportation information and instructions for how to get to the worksite.

If your new year’s resolutions included anything about connecting or reconnecting with nature, the Stanford Conservation Program has got you covered! We are offering TWO upcoming opportunities for planting this year! We need your help restoring wetland habitat at the Stanford Dish and continuing our work increasing the riparian corridor along Deer Creek. Native planting can increase biodiversity, support wildlife, sequester carbon, and offset flooding and erosion. Also, you get to appreciate a little piece of Stanford you may not have seen before. RSVP for one or both of our events—RSVP links in bio.

Want to enjoy a sunny October morning at the Dish?
Want to meet some new folks or hang out with familiar friends?
Want to help improve habitat for native plant and animal species at Stanford?

Join the Stanford Conservation Program in improving wildlife habitat at the Dish by pulling stinkwort at the Dish on October 12th, from 9:00am – 12:00pm!

Stinkwort (Dittrichia graveolens) is an invasive annual plant species which has become established in large patches at the Stanford Dish. It is highly disruptive to our local ecosystems, outcompeting native plant species and spreading tens of thousands of wind-dispersed seeds each year. Hand pulling is an effective control method before stinkwort sets seed—so grab your friends and come help us remove this invasive species to improve biodiversity at the Dish!

Please wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty, long sleeves/long pants, closed-toed shoes, and a water bottle. The Conservation Program will provide gloves and any tools you might need to get the job done.

Meet at the Stanford Avenue entrance to the Stanford Dish trail.

And please RSVP using the link or QR code on the flyer!
