A little time to unwind outside of work! 🍷✨

Some of our Pathology trainees recently enjoyed a casual happy hour at Vino Enoteca — a great chance to relax, connect, and spend time together outside the hospital.

We love seeing our trainees build community both in and out of the workplace! ❤️

Beyond the Microscope 🔬| Fellow Spotlight

Name, training year, and program: Amanda Gibbs, MD | Breast Pathology Fellow, PGY-5

Where did you complete medical school?

University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine, followed by AP/CP Residency at the University of Virginia Health System.

What drew you to your pathology subspecialty, and what do you hope to do after fellowship?

In residency, I found the breast cases to be the most intriguing to sign out, largely due to the diversity of diagnoses I encountered. I also found those cases to be the most emotionally impactful and felt that was the area where I did my best work.

After fellowship, I hope to join a collegial community-based practice where I can continue to develop diagnostically and hone my leadership and operational skills.

Why did you choose Stanford Pathology for your training?

I was drawn to the volume and diversity of challenging consult cases on the breast service, the chance to learn from leading experts in the field, and the opportunity to spend a year in such a beautiful place.

What is your favorite area of pathology or current area of interest?

Breast pathology, unsurprisingly. I’m also interested in quality and process improvement and enjoy finding ways to make pathology workflows more efficient.

What has been one of your favorite experiences or memorable moments at Stanford so far?

Going to the San Jose Earthquake soccer game at Stanford Stadium!

What is something about pathology you wish more people knew?

Pathologists are actually very social — we talk to each other all the time!

When you’re not at the microscope, what can we usually find you doing?

Unfortunately for my wallet, I am a big fan of anything that require a ticket. I love going to sporting events, especially Vegas Golden Knights and Las Vegas Aces games, as well as going to drag shows, Broadway shows, concerts, and comedy shows. When there’s nothing on my calendar, I’m looking for a good hike or somewhere new to travel and explore. And everything is more fun when I get to do it with my partner and our dog!

Tell us one fun fact about yourself that your colleagues might not know.

I can make a mean old

Where science meets creativity 🔬🎨

Our Chiefs Dr. Anthony Chen and Dr. Margarita Munoz de Toro, along with our resident Dr. Ashley Tam, had an amazing time connecting with high school students through the Art & Anatomy program, sharing the world of pathology in a hands-on and inspiring way. From viewing their own cells under the microscope to creating art on glass slides, these future scientists got a unique glimpse into the beauty of medicine.

Inspiring the next generation, one cell at a time ✨
