✨ Stories from the Holman Centennial Celebration, where we reflected on the "Giants of the Palo Alto Era." We had the privilege of hearing from our very own Cardiothoracic Surgery Professor Emeritus Dr. D. Craig Miller, who shared stories about incredible pioneers and the surgical training experiences under Dr. Norman E. Shumway and the heart transplant revolution.🫀

This year marks the 100th anniversary of Dr. Emile Holman's appointment as Department Chair of Surgery. ✨ Along with his wife Dr. Ann Purdy, he was instrumental in launching Dr. Shumway's career here at Stanford. Dr. Shumway, known as the "father of heart transplantation," led the first successful adult heart transplant in the United States in 1968 🏥.
