Our chapter was honored to receive the Bend Don’t Break grant through the Illinois FFA Foundation FFA and the Farm Family Resource Initiative. We were able to put on our Fill Your Bucket First event where students got to practice self-care by visiting various stations and carry out conversations about mental health. All students in attendance also got a free t-shirt to spark conversations about the importance of “Filling Your Bucket First”!

There will be a Groundbreaking Ceremony on Monday, June 1st at 1:00PM to celebrate the new addition which will include 2 new agriculture classrooms and a demonstration space. All FFA members are invited to attend- wear FFA Official Dress OR FFA Gear! Our group will greatly benefit from this space for years to come and we can’t wait to celebrate this milestone with our supporters. Students and families should meet at the south end of the Olympia High School Building!

All OMS FFA Members and their families are invited to attend the 3rd Annual Awards Ceremony after school on Monday, May 18th. We will present awards and have cupcakes and lemonade. A parent/guardian must fill out the Google Form to attend. The form can be found on the FFA Google Classroom or in your email. RSVP’s are due TODAY!

Our OMS FFA had a great time at our April monthly meeting! We had a special guest, Michelle Fluty, that taught who is how to properly judge dairy cattle. Our students got to judge 2 different classes of cattle. After working on judging dairy cows our FFA members got to go around to different stations they got to try cheese, make ice cream, milk defects, and learn more about dairy. We had so much fun learning more about dairy, and dairy cattle evaluation.

The Olympia Middle School FFA is hosting a self-care awareness event on Wednesday, May 6th beginning at 3:30PM and will last until 5:30PM. This event is open to any 6-8th grade student who has attended at least one monthly meeting or FFA event. There will be several activities like making a snack, line dancing, and even chair massages from a licensed massage therapist! Everyone will leave with a prize to remember to "Fill Your Bucket First". Students must register in the FFA Google Classroom by April 17th!

Our April OMS FFA Meeting will be held on Friday, April 10th after school from 3:30-5:30PM in the OMS Cafeteria. The theme is "From Moo to You" and students will be learning all about how to judge dairy cattle, determine dairy vs. non-dairy products, try a variety of cheeses, and make homemade ice cream! Students must have their AET profile completed to attend.

Congratulations to our OMS FFA Livestock Judging Team winning the middle school division at our section contest! Top individuals were Lauren Burkhart, Kylie McDaniel and Baylor McDaniel. Avery Miller, Aubrie Green, and Dixie Grampp also attended and did a great job!

Olympia middle school and high school hosted the contest at Four Rocks Arena near Delavan. Special thanks to the livestock producers who provided animals for the classes: Frerichs Brothers Cattle, Hoffman Sheep Farm, Craig Family Goats, Burkhart Farms, Deal Family, and Smith Farms. Also the FFA Alumni that helped things run smoothly: Joan & Bill Harrison, Katie Rader, Gina Schaefer. We also had several FFA members who helped coordinate the event! Finally, shout out to Mr. Hoffman for helping to make this event possible!
