On April 26, 2021 the ASSU Undergraduate Senate voted on our Joint Resolution to Restore the Cantonese Language Program. It passed unanimously by all the senators present!

👏This is an important signal to the university that students support our goals of securing a full-time, benefits-eligible lectureship and having Cantonese courses fulfill the language requirement

Solo singer-songwriter and radio DJ Jan Lamb is known for his unique akin-to-rap music style filled with down-to-earth Cantonese lyrics and clever wordplays. He debuted in the comedic musical duo Softhard in 1988. His comedy routine has been a staple in the yearly Ultimate Song Chart Awards Presentation, with many Hong Kongers looking forward to his sarcastic commentary on the music scene.

A sequel to his recent song UNCLE, AUNTIE celebrates the rejuvenation of middle-aged boomers, commonly called “uncles” or “aunties” by the younger generation. In particular, AUNTIE draws upon the recent surge of middle-aged female fans of the local boyband MIRROR .weare (鏡媽 geng mā, “MIRROR moms”). Through fandom, they can break out of the everyday reality of adulthood and once again experience the youthful excitement reminiscent of their school times.

The lyrics are filled with references to 90s Cantopop songs as well as MIRROR’s latest releases:
