K**a Bruce comes to Mead from Catlin Gabel, ranked the #1 independent school in Oregon and among the very best in the nation. Before that: an M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction, doctoral research at UT Austin, and a career that began in a public elementary classroom.

A leader who has spent decades studying how children actually learn looked at schools across the country. He chose Mead. 💛

Getting to know K**a Bruce, our new Head of School. Five things we love already:

He grew up on three continents, from Minneapolis to Ghana to Wisconsin to Texas, with a scholarship year in Germany along the way. He was raised by social workers, which he says taught him to lead with empathy and amplify unseen voices. He started his career as a public elementary school teacher in Austin. His heart is in the early years: how young children learn, grow, and become themselves. And best of all? His family is joining the Mead community right alongside him.
