The Stamford Board of Education voted to take power away from the outgoing school superintendent regarding involuntary principal reassignments, essentially stopping her from transferring two popular school leaders to new positions.

The vote seemingly puts an end to a tumultuous two weeks that included a student walkout, teacher protests and combative board meetings in response to news that two school principals would be involuntarily reassigned to new positions.

The ongoing controversy related to the involuntary reassignment of two Stamford school principals by the outgoing superintendent may come to a conclusion Tuesday night.

Board President Andy George said the board will discuss its response to the grievance — filed by the Stamford Administrative Unit, the union for administrators — and could hold a vote at the end of the meeting. The agenda notes that the two items on the docket are likely to be discussed, at least partially, in executive session, meaning it will not be available to the public.
