ACLU of Florida myself and my fiancée were arrested a few nights ago for protesting Javksonville city beach’s discriminatorily enforced ordinance on no sleeping in public. We made it clear that our sleeping right in front of city hall , off side walks and through ways , was a 1st amendment protected form of peaceful protest to draw awareness to the mistreatment of the homeless population of Jax Beach, FL .

If your organization would like to help us in filing suit against the city , and hopefully being a focal point for establishing case law against such egregious laws it would be much appreciated

I will say that those that support ordinances and laws that are clearly discriminatory in their enforcement are horrible people.

All I know is that I have a lot of support from a lot of good people.

During a terrible economic recession when most are a paycheck away from homelessness , laws like no sleeping in public are draconian and everyone should take a stand against them wherever they pop up

Illegal to be homeless

Before I catch a nap, on this anxious day to come , no matter the cost , I am faced with a risky dream of mine.

To face the state in a battle of morality, to a jury of my peers , all while being illegally denied my discovery requests , and which would prove in open court , the criminal behavior of government agents in my case.

I have been denied access to the electronic filing system , knowing I’m homeless and not easily able to travel the great distance to file in person.

The maximum punishment I face is the same they offered me in a plea.

I have nothing to lose.

Plus , I have ample grounds for a civil rights lawsuit regardless of the outcome of the criminal trial initially, which would not be able to pass muster on appeal.

I am ready. I have prepared. I will be the example not the statistic.

I want to thank everyone showing me support in this deeply chosen position.
