Today marks the 350th anniversary of the death of the German composer Heinrich Schütz. This recording by Magnificat features Schütz’s Cantiones sacrae, an unusual work that stands quite apart from his other published sacred music in both scale and style. Magnificat’s performance of these perfectly crafted works reveals Schütz to be a composer with an imagination of extraordinary variety.

★★★★ "This is music of intimate majesty, spiritual and human, splendidly performed." - The Times
