📢 Attention parents and guardians! The 2026 Virginia SUN Bucks online application is now live!
Virginia SUN Bucks helps eligible families pay for groceries during summer break, when most schools are closed. In 2026, each eligible school‑age child will receive a one‑time $120 benefit.
Most eligible families are automatically enrolled in Virginia SUN Bucks and will not need to apply, including:
📍Families who receive SNAP or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF).
📍Students who have applied for and received free or reduced-price meals through the National School Lunch Program (NSLP).
📍Most children who receive certain types of income-based Medicaid, because their household's income is under the eligible income.
Students who live in a low-income household but were not determined eligible by DC or meal application must apply for SUN Bucks directly with the Virginia Department of Social Services.
If you are unsure whether your household qualifies, you can visit the SUN Bucks website to access the eligibility quiz and the online application.
