For the families being hurt by the shutdown, please be aware of the available resources.
Stafford Families: Resources Available for Furloughed Workers
We understand the uncertainty that comes with a federal furlough. Stafford Schools has compiled a comprehensive list of local resources to support affected federal employees and their families.
What you'll find on the resource page:
FOOD Assistance: Get help from local pantries like SERVE Food Pantry and use the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank's Pantry Locator Map. You can also dial 2-1-1 Virginia for community support services.
UTILITY Help: Information on financial support for residents facing electric disconnect notices through SERVE's Dominion EnergyShare program.
Benefits & Employment: Learn how to apply for benefits like SNAP, TANF, and Medicaid through the Stafford County Department of Social Services (DSS). Furloughed employees can also file for Unemployment Compensation for Federal Employees (UCFE) via the Virginia Employment Commission (VEC).
Mental Health: Crucial support is available through the Rappahannock Area Community Services Board (RACSB) and the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline.

So proud of our principals. This is an honor for Mr Sidebotham.
Grafton Elementary School Principal Michael Sidebotham has been appointed by U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon to the National Assessment Governing Board, the body that oversees the Nation’s Report Card.
The appointment places Sidebotham among a select group of leaders responsible for shaping how student achievement is measured across the country. Sidebotham brings a record of leadership, including being named a Virginia Principal of Distinction and Stafford County Principal of the Year.
Superintendent Dr. Daniel Smith called the appointment a “remarkable achievement” that reflects both Sidebotham’s impact and the caliber of leadership in Stafford schools. Dr. Smith says with this national role, Sidebotham’s voice will influence decisions that help define the future of American education.
