We were honored to welcome Allan Golston, President of the Gates Foundation, to Harris-Stowe State University and share the work happening across our campus.
As the only HBCU in St. Louis, HSSU is committed to creating opportunities that help students succeed in the classroom, graduate with confidence, and thrive long after they leave campus.
Thank you, Mr. Golston, for taking the time to meet with our students, faculty, and staff and for highlighting the impact of this important work. We're proud of how far we've come and even more excited about what's ahead!
Read his reflections on the visit below.

Congratulations to Emma Fox, Urban Policing Coordinator, on successfully completing the Lincoln University Law Enforcement Training Academy!
Emma's achievement reflects her dedication to public service and professional excellence. We are proud to celebrate this milestone as she continues to make a positive impact within our campus and community.
In 2022, Harris-Stowe State University partnered with Lincoln University to establish the only law enforcement training academy located on an HBCU campus in St. Louis. Since its launch, the academy has been recognized for helping increase the diversity of peace officers throughout the St. Louis region and creating pathways for the next generation of law enforcement professionals.
Join us in congratulating Emma on this outstanding accomplishment!

Please join us in welcoming our new Chief of Public Safety, Darryl Walker, to Hornet Nation!
With 37 years of experience in law enforcement and public safety and a lifelong commitment to the City of St. Louis, he brings a vision centered on trust, respect, and community partnership. Drawn to Harris-Stowe State University because of its unique role as St. Louis' only HBCU, he is passionate about helping shape the future of the next generation while fostering positive relationships between public safety and the communities it serves.
His approach to campus safety goes beyond enforcement—focusing on presence, accessibility, and building meaningful connections with students, faculty, and staff. Through community-based policing and student-centered leadership, he is committed to creating an environment where every member of the HSSU family feels heard, respected, supported, and safe.
"Every member of the community should feel this is a safe place to work, learn, and thrive."
