Sometimes a child who “can’t sit still” isn’t just being hyper… sometimes sitting still is actually HARD for their body. 👀

Strength, coordination, balance, body awareness, sensory needs, mobility and more can all play a role in how easily a child can sit and focus.

Kids are supposed to move!! But if sitting seems extra hard for your child and you feel like you’re CONSTANTLY reminding them to sit still or sit in their chair, there may be more to the story…

That’s where pediatric PT can help. Instead of just asking them to “sit still,” let’s figure out what their body needs to make it easier.

Not sure if your child could benefit? Send me a message. I’m always happy to chat 🤍

Plot twist: one of my favorite ways to work on RUNNING with toddlers… is reading a book 📚🏃Sounds backwards, right? 😂 But running needs way more than strong little legs.

When I have a toddler sit on something slightly wobbly and reach, turn, look side to side, and cross their body to flip the pages, we’re sneaking in SO many of the skills their body needs for running:

✨ core strength + balance
✨ reaching outside their base of support
✨ turning their head without losing balance
✨ rotating through their trunk
✨ coordinating the two sides of their body

All while they think we’re just reading a book. 😉This is one of my favorite parts of pediatric PT! you don’t always need more exercises or more things added to your day. Sometimes we just change how your child is already playing to help their body learn a new skill ❤️

Save this one and try it during your next story time! And if your toddler’s run has always looked a little stiff, wonky, or just different, that’s exactly the kind of thing I love helping families figure out.

If you’ve been wondering whether PT could help your little one, this is your sign to reach out 🤍 I’m welcoming families in the clinic, at home, or in the community! DM, text 314-626-3214, or email Dr. Alyssa directly at [email protected] for more info

A little life update I never expected to be sharing...

Our sweet boy recently had an unexpected NICU stay. We are incredibly grateful to be home and that he is doing well, but right now, my family needs a little more of me.

So if I’m quieter here, slower to respond, or not showing up quite as much over the next few weeks, this is why. I’m still here, just choosing to be just a mom for a little while 🤍

And if there’s one thing this experience has reminded me of, both as a pediatric PT and as a mom, it’s this: trust your gut when it comes to your babies. You know them. You know when something isn’t right. Ask the questions, speak up, and never feel bad for advocating for your child.

Thank you for loving on our family and continuing to support Dr. Alyssa and Together in Motion Therapy while we take some time to heal and soak in our little guy. It means more than I can say ❤️

Happy Breastfeeding Week to all of the amazing mamas out there, no matter what your journey looks/looked like! You deserve to be celebrated 💖

I wanted to make this post because feeding our babies can bring so much joy… and so many emotions, too. As both a pediatric physical therapist and a mom, I’ve seen that no two feeding journeys are ever the same. I know that because I’ve lived it myself. Three babies. Three completely different experiences. And every single one has taught me something new.

So instead of sharing tips this week, I wanted to leave you with something different. A few reminders you can come back to whenever you need them.

Whether you’re nursing, pumping, combo feeding, working through challenges, or simply soaking in these moments with your baby, I hope you find one affirmation that feels like it was written just for you.

You are doing an incredible job.

And if feeding feels harder than you expected, please know you don’t have to figure it out alone. Sometimes the smallest bit of support can completely change the experience for both you and your baby 🤍

Which slide are you taking with you today? ✨

Every single one of these slides is a true story from my own life 🤍 As a pediatric physical therapist and mom of three, I’ve learned that two things can be true at the same time. One moment I feel like I’m finally finding my rhythm, and the next I’m questioning everything. We celebrate the little wins, then five minutes later we’re cleaning up another accident, calming another meltdown, or crying together because breastfeeding just isn’t going the way we hoped.

Social media has a funny way of making it seem like everyone else has it figured out. But the truth is, even those of us who spend our careers supporting children and families still have hard days. We still feel overwhelmed. We still ask for help. We still wonder if we’re doing enough.

Parenting isn’t about having all the answers. It’s learning, adapting, celebrating, laughing, crying, and trying again, sometimes all within the same hour. That’s not failure, it’s just real life.

So if you’re in a season where the messy moments seem louder than the joyful ones, I hope this reminds you that you’re not the only one. The beautiful moments and the challenging ones can exist together, and neither defines the kind of parent you are.

You’re doing better than you think. And you’re never alone in this. 🤍

Let’s feel less alone in parenthood, which slide felt the most like your life right now?!

When did we make potty training SO complicated?

Sticker charts.
30-day methods, 3 days methods.
“Just wait until they’re ready.”
“Take away the diapers”

It’s no wonder parents feel overwhelmed 🤯

The truth? Success usually has less to do with finding the perfect method and more to do with setting your child’s body up for success physically 🚽

As a pediatric pelvic floor physical therapist, these are some of my favorite recommendations that I use with families every day:
🤍 A potty setup that fits your child - able to sit up with their feet flat, resting their arms on their hands and hips rocked forwards while keeping their balance for at least 1 minute. One that they can access on their own!
🤍 A stool that supports their feet (this is HUGE!)
🤍 Simple toys and activities that help them relax instead of rushing through it

When a child’s body feels supported and safe, using the bathroom often becomes so much easier.

Save this post for when you’re starting potty training (or if you’re in the thick of it right now 🙃).

And tell me in the comments… what’s been the hardest part of potty training for your family? I’d love to help. 🤍
