🌲 Student Spotlight: Bizzy at North Star Camp ! 🎣♟️

When City Academy student Bizzy first arrived at North Star Camp in 2023, he was ready for a fun summer—but he had no idea just how much he would discover!

From fishing and chess to capture the flag and even the World Lumberjack Championships, Bizzy embraced every part of the camp experience. Most importantly, he discovered the joy of unplugging, spending time outdoors, trying new things, and building friendships that last long after summer ends.

Bizzy has returned to North Star every summer since, staying connected with fellow campers throughout the year. This summer, he took another exciting step: spending the full eight-week session at camp! 💙

We’re grateful for partners like North Star Camp and Camp for All Kids who provide our scholars with opportunities to explore new interests, build confidence, connect with their peers, and experience the great outdoors.

Way to go, Bizzy! We can’t wait to hear about all of your adventures! 🌟🏕️

Big news for City Academy STEAM! 🔬⚙️🎨

We’re grateful to receive a $40,000 grant from Bayer Fund, a philanthropic arm of Bayer U.S. This funding will support hands-on instruction, educator development, classroom resources and experiential learning for City Academy scholars!

You may remember Bayer employees at STEAM Family Night last fall, where students created chromatography flowers while learning about capillary action and how dyes separate.

Bayer Fund has supported our STEAM program since 2008, helping students connect classroom learning to real-world challenges and see themselves as future scientists, engineers, innovators and problem-solvers.

We loved welcoming our new friends to the OWLS classroom this summer! 🦉 💙

Over the past few weeks, our newest scholars spent time getting to know their teachers Mrs. Alison & Ms. Michelle, classmates, and school while building confidence before the first day. It has been so much fun watching new friendships bloom and excitement grow for the year ahead.

Enjoy the rest of your summer… we'll see you OWL very soon! 😉 We can't wait to kick off an amazing school year on August 19! 📚✨

Summer at City is wrapping up, and it has been filled with learning, laughter, and unforgettable memories! 🎉

This week, our students enjoyed one last round of inline skating with August Bindbeutel of Skate St. Louis. Our gym transformed into a skating rink as students laced up their skates and had a blast—some learning a new skill, while others were eager to show off their moves! With fun games, an encouraging coach, and plenty of smiles, it was another unforgettable Summer at City experience. 🛼💙

Thank you, Coach August and Skate St. Louis, for helping make this summer one to remember!

Beauty in the Community 07/13/2026

Big ideas can start with something as simple as planting a seed.

Through the Beauty in the Community project, City Academy students combined science, technology, engineering, art, and math to reimagine and enhance their Outdoor Classroom. Along the way, they explored environmental stewardship, analyzed real-world data, and discovered how thoughtful design can make a lasting impact. The project empowered students to see themselves not only as learners, but as problem-solvers with the ability to improve the world around them.

Read the full story to see how our students are cultivating beauty, curiosity, and community—one project at a time:

Beauty in the Community At City Academy, STEAM learning extends far beyond the classroom walls. Through the use of our Outdoor Classroom, students are encouraged to explore the connections between science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics in meaningful, real-world ways. More Than a Performance: Michael Prince 07/08/2026

Sometimes, the most meaningful lessons happen beyond the classroom.

When internationally acclaimed violinist Michael Prince visited City Academy, he brought far more than an unforgettable performance. Through music, storytelling, and mentorship, students were encouraged to embrace their individuality, pursue their passions, and redefine what it means to be "cool." His visit left students inspired—not only as young musicians, but as confident learners ready to chart their own path.

Read the full story to see how one performance became an experience our students won't forget:

More Than a Performance: Michael Prince Most visiting artists arrive at a school and spend the first few minutes introducing themselves. Violinist Michael Prince had a different experience at City Academy. Before the 24-year-old musician ever stepped foot on campus, students were already familiar with his music. The journey began when P.E...

Every family has a story about why they chose their child's school.

For 2026 City Academy Parents (CAPS) President Rocky Talavedra, that story began with a checklist and ended with something far greater than she imagined. As her twins prepare for their next steps, she reflects on the teachers, leaders, friendships, and community that helped shape their journey—and why City Academy will always hold a special place in her family's story.

🌍✈️ This week at Summer at City, our students took a trip around the world—without ever leaving campus!

Our global-themed week was filled with hands-on fun as students explored different cultures by creating colorful maracas, designing tiki masks, trying henna-inspired tattoos, celebrating with a glow-in-the-dark luau, and wrapping up the week in Italy with a delicious pizza party. 🍕🌺🎶

Our oldest scholars also had the chance to enjoy the new life-size chess board generously built and donated by City Academy Class of 2020 alumnus Andrew Ford as his Eagle Scout project. From creative activities to strategic chess matches, it was another week full of learning, laughter, and unforgettable summer memories.

Class of 2020 alumnus Andrew Ford stopped by City Academy today with a BIG gift! ♟️

Andrew and the Ford family delivered a life-size chess board that he designed and built as part of his Eagle Scout project. A recent graduate of MICDS - Mary Institute and Saint Louis Country Day School and one of this year's Brightman Award recipient, Andrew continues to exemplify the spirit of the award through his commitment to giving back to the community that helped shape him.

Thank you, Andrew, for your generosity and for investing in the next generation of City Academy students. We are so proud of all you've accomplished and wish you the very best as you begin this exciting next chapter at DePauw University !
