Happy Principals Month! 🍎

We want to wish our Head of School, Jarrett Young, and Assistant Head of School, Liesl Hoffmeyer, a very special Happy Principals Month!

Their leadership, dedication, and commitment to City Academy help keep our school community running smoothly each and every day. This photo from the first day of school captures that dedication perfectly. Despite the rain, Mr. Young and Mrs. Hoffmeyer were outside greeting every family, opening car doors, and making sure we started the school year with a smile!

September 15–October 15 is Hispanic Heritage Month! 🎉

At City Academy, celebrating Hispanic heritage and culture extends beyond just one month. All of our students, from our 3-year-old Owls through 6th grade, take Spanish lessons with our amazing Maestra Talavedra, where they have opportunities to learn about language, culture, and traditions. 💙

To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, Maestra Talavedra has encouraged families to explore events happening throughout St. Louis and created special projects for students at different grade levels. Our oldest scholars researched different Hispanic countries, learning about their flags, cultures, and interesting facts before creating displays to share what they discovered with the rest of our school community. 🌎📚

We hope you’ll join our scholars in taking some time this Hispanic Heritage Month to learn something new and celebrate the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of Hispanic communities! ✨

Today's Buddy Morning was a SUCCESS! We made so many memories ✨🥰

Over 100 guests visited and had the incredible opportunity to experience City Academy firsthand.

We began the day by enjoying our 5th graders’ rendition of “You’ve got a friend in me,” followed by a speech by 6th grader Mariyah. Then, alumni Kenneth Cunningham took the stage to share his experience of attending City and now returning as a buddy.

Each guest partnered with one or more 1st-6th graders to bond over fun activities; together they did everything from creating circuits out of play doh to analyzing literature. What a lively morning full of games, laughter, creativity, and new connections!

What better way to start a Friday? 🌳☀️

Our OWLs, Kindergarten, first, and second grade students took a field trip to the Anne O'C. Albrecht Nature Playscape in Forest Park this morning! The beautiful weather made for a perfect morning of exploring and playing in nature.

Students climbed trees, searched for buried treasures, splashed around during water play, and enjoyed plenty of time outdoors with their friends. We were also grateful to have so many of our parents join us for the morning and share in the fun! 💙💛

We couldn’t think of a better way to kick off the weekend! 🌿

🚨 Pete the Cat is MISSING! 🐱🔍

Our 3- and 4-year-old OWLs headed off to specials, but when they returned… Pete was GONE! Our OWLs searched high and low, looking all around City Academy for their missing friend. Where could Pete possibly be?!

Our 1st graders recently received a special delivery! 📚💛

Students received copies of Millie the Magical Stone Skipper by St. Louis native Olivia Polk. The story follows a young girl discovering a hidden talent while learning about perseverance along the way.

Thank you, Olivia, for sharing your book with our students, and to the Pershing Charitable Trust, a longtime City Academy supporter, for helping make this special connection possible. We’re grateful for partners who help put great books in the hands of young readers!

Yesterday, Jr. Kindergarten STEAM teacher Evelyn Rosario’s class unleashed their creativity in celebration of International Dot Day! 🎨🖌️✨

Inspired by the book The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds, International Dot Day is a celebration of creativity, courage, and collaboration. Together, Ms. Rosario’s students read the story and discussed its uplifting message: Anybody can be creative, it just takes the courage to start.

Empowered by this message, students collaborated and expressed themselves through Dot Art activities. It was so special seeing their imaginations come to life, one dot at a time!
