Happy Juneteenth!

June 19, also known as Freedom Day, commemorates the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Texas were finally informed of their freedom—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. Now a federal holiday, Juneteenth is a day to honor the resilience of those who fought for freedom and to reflect on the ongoing journey toward justice and equity.

We invite our community to celebrate, learn, and grow with us. Explore resources, reading lists, and more: communityschool.com/news-events/news/2026-juneteenth

Here’s a look back at our Class of 2026 on Graduation Day in late May. As the culmination of years of public speaking practice at Community School, each sixth grader prepared and delivered a speech to family members, teachers, and staff. They also performed a song together one last time before heading outside to take turns ringing our school bell, a cherished graduation tradition.

Congratulations again to our newest alumni! 🎓🎉

This spring, first graders explored the meaning of “neighborhood,” learning about the homes, businesses, landmarks, and physical features that make every community unique. Students described and mapped their own neighborhoods before visiting two iconic St. Louis neighborhoods: The Delmar Loop and The Hill.

From visiting City Hall, the fire station, library, and post office in the Loop to exploring St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milo’s Bocce Garden, local shops, and a chocolate factory on The Hill, students learned firsthand about the people and places that shape a community. Along the way, they ate great food and reflected on their experiences through discussions and hands-on activities back in the classroom.

First Grade’s study of St. Louis neighborhoods is a wonderful example of how hands-on experiences help students connect classroom learning to the real world while growing as curious and thoughtful citizens. 💫

Here’s a look back at Wednesday’s car parade celebrating the Class of 2026! Families decorated their cars for this special tradition, and the whole school gathered to cheer them on before summer break.

We’re excited to stay connected with our graduates and watch them shine in secondary school and beyond! 🎓
