TOAD!!! Found at the park!

(None harmed in the making of this video!😆)

The group worked hard practicing how to hold it firmly but gently, how to talk softer so as to minimize scaring it and how to give it space and let it go back to its home after we’ve taken turns holding and petting it!

CHEERS to these future farmers, ecologists, veterinarians, doctors, moms, dads, scientists and more who are coming to Wildercamp and learning valuable skills about nature and caring for living things!!!

Summer has begun! 🌞🌲🌈🐝🦋🌿🌸
Wildercamp * WEEK ONE * !!!! (Season 9!)

Music is one way we play and enjoy being outdoors together. It also helps us slow down, be present and enjoy special moments with others.

Gratitude for our leader Tommy Becker, for sharing this gift with us as we de-school and acclimate to having more freedom, learning new and different skills and seeing the wonder and beauty of the natural environment all around us at the park.

On the very first excursion (walk) through the park one small group had a near constant repeat of “what time is it?”s, “Can we go back to homebase now?”s, and “where are we going?”s. A slow walk to nowhere in particular seemed almost excruciating, and dull. The leader challenged back with ..”I’m not sure” “we can go wherever we want” “we’re just walking and looking around”

It was clear our skills of WAITING, wandering, wondering, and lingering had not been utilized in awhile! The group had to be reminded that there is a JOY in having NO place to go and NOTHING to do!

Soon and very soon the questions ARE being replaced with “Do we have to go back?”s, “Look at this!”s and no one taking to the leaders at all cause they are lost in the trees and bushes and play ..completely forgetting the time or the place!

Easing out of ‘school mode’ and into ‘summer mode’ with “Park Days” @ Forest Park!
The weather in the shade was A-MAZING and the group made it to Kennedy Forest (a first!) where they discovered cool mushrooms, wild blackberries (or raspberries?!) and a SPITTLE BUG! Children were attuned to finding things once they slowed down and realized cool things were there for the finding!

(Note: fountain outside the art museum is NOT for playing in or cooling off..pic taken just before we realized we had to move on!)
