A Message from Craft Alliance Executive Director Bryan Knicely:

St. Louis arts and culture provide us with outstanding public art (in a park).

My love for public art really started at Laumeier Sculpture Park decades ago. It was my first opportunity to work with world-class installation artists, some of whom became lifelong friends. Laumeier also sparked my active collecting of art and craft from artists both locally and around the world, starting with the annual Laumeier Art Fair.

While Alexander Liberman’s “The Way” is the iconic sculpture that graces the grounds, I had the fortune of working with Terry Allen during the installation of “Laumeier U-ME-UM” back in 1998. For me, the “U-ME-UM…Laumeier” struck the same tone for me personally as the bumper sticker “I heart NY.” This was Terry Allen’s love note creation for Laumeier.

Begin your love affair with public art and Laumeier. They are celebrating 50 years as a place where art and nature come together and spark curiosity, creativity, and connection. It truly is outstanding, and they have marked this milestone year with the theme “Where Wander Turns to Wonder.” On your next day off, or if you need a break from your hectic schedule, stop by Laumeier…take a stroll…see where art and nature come together…wander and wonder!

Week 2 of Summer Camp is here! Craft art and friendships are being made in Craft Alliance studios this week!

At Craft Alliance, we believe 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝘁. 𝗟𝗼𝘂𝗶𝘀 deserves the chance to see themselves as a maker.

Our ArtSmarts program is a 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 designed to bring middle and high school students directly into the heart of contemporary craft. From guided gallery tours to hands-on sessions in our professional metalsmithing, ceramics, fiber, and print studios, we’re bridging the gap between inspiration and creation.
