BeaconPredict, an AI-enabled tool designed to predict dangerous brain swelling after stroke, has received FDA Breakthrough Device designation.
Developed from research led by Rajat Dhar, MD, BeaconPredict could help clinicians identify malignant cerebral edema earlier and with greater accuracy, supporting faster, more informed treatment when every minute counts.

New research led by Jorge Llibre-Guerra, MD, reveals an increase in dementia across several Latin American and Caribbean communities over the past two decades. The study found that dementia prevalence increased significantly in Mexico, Peru and Puerto Rico, while remaining stable in Cuba and the Dominican Republic.
These findings highlight urgent global health inequities and the need for stronger dementia surveillance, prevention, and care infrastructure. As Llibre-Guerra emphasized, the burden of dementia is shaped not just by biology, but by the conditions people live in.

Huge congratulations to David Gutmann, MD, PhD, who has been selected to receive the Society for Neuro-Oncology's 2026 Victor Levin Award. The award honors an individual who has made "extraordinary achievements in neuro-oncology research." As part of the award, he has been invited to give a lecture at the society's annual meeting in November.
