Before you walk into any meeting where you want to be given an equal voice, ask yourself this first:
โDo I look like I belong? Am I dressed at least equally as formally (if not more than) the others at the table?โ

Thereโs a lot of heavy dialogue right now about our kiddos going back to school. And I know NO ONE knows how much anxiety BTS can cause, like a does, right?
So can I just be one of the first to tell you that youโre doing a great job? Because you absolutely are. And perhaps even more importantly, let me sayโฆ

Donโt you dare let anyone else tell you differently.
No one outside of your family knows your situation and your child as well as you do, so they donโt get one drop of input in your decision and they sure as hell donโt get a bit of space in your head to fill with anxiety and shouldaโ couldaโ wouldas.

Did you decide to send them back to school? Great! You made the right choice, Mama!
โ
Did you pick your schoolโs full-time e-learning option? Awesome! You made the right choice, Mama!
โ
Did you choose to ๐ฏ homeschool this year? Sweet! You made the right choice, Mama!
You ๐๐ป made ๐๐ป the ๐๐ป right ๐๐ป choice. ๐๐ป
And so did she. And her, too - even if you all chose differently, itโs all the right choice.

Fighting for racial equality is 1. Just the right freaking thing to do
and 2. A natural piece of what I do in the Special Education community. Minority children are disproportionately negatively impacted by ALL aspects of our educational system, including their access to special education they might need.
And 3.
Itโs ๐๐ป just ๐๐ป the ๐๐ป right ๐๐ป freaking ๐๐ป thing ๐๐ป to ๐๐ป do ๐๐ป
If you want to learn more, start reading. Start googling. Follow BIPOC. Listen. Listen. When you have questions GOOGLE IT FIRST, then ask a white ally. Right now, DO NOT ask a black person who has zero capacity. Just donโt.

Iโm so thankful the Universe brought this guy into my life while I was so young. Weโve had 18 years together and with a lot of hard work, deliberate effort, and a dash of miraculous luck, Iโm happier with him today than I could have ever thought possible. Heโs a true teammate and my biggest champion, while also constantly challenging me to be the best version of myself.
He makes my heart squeezy and gives me all the ๐, even when heโs making me crazy.
Thanks for doing life with me babe.
And thatโs a wrap on our 2020 April Birthday season with a Butterbeer inspired cake for the big 12 year old in the house!

I never understood why he considers the creek across the street โhisโ to take care of, until this past weekend.
He cares for the community common spaces the same way I care about other peopleโs kiddos. Doesnโt matter that neither technically belong to us...weโre just each using the gifts, talents, and interests we have to improve the world around us. โค๏ธ

If youโre a worrier like me, try to remember: itโs okay to feel how you feel. You donโt have to dwell on feelings (they arenโt facts!), but you donโt have to judge yourself harshly for having them either. Itโs okay. ๐

I pick my battles, people. ๐๐
These boys think itโs hysterical to have all-day evidence of them โsleeping like a tornado.โ They demand pictures. They compete with each other and themselves to see if they can get it any crazier.
And to all the teachers and other people who see them - I do always suggest that we dunk their heads in water and comb the ratโs nest. I really do! But theyโre happy and I just donโt care enough to upset the fragile balance we have in the mornings. ๐คทโโ๏ธ๐คช it miiiiiight be time for buzz cuts though. @ St. Louis, Missouri
