Rebekah Hines - Papua New Guinea

Hey, I have not posted in a while. I just thought I'd say really quickly... I am having a great time at camp. Some of you may have heard how nervous I have been about speaking as camp missionary. 4 presentations done, 4 to go. Pray they go to go well and the kids stay attentive!

Home again in St. Louis!!! This is my first furlough after being in PNG for 3 years. Wow how fast the time flew! I will be home for about 8 months, until just after Thanksgiving. Hopefully the months go slowly... but I expect they will fly by.

1 month count down till I arrive home and see my family again. I will be home for only 8 months, so if you want me to visit your church, be thinking about when. I am already filling my calendar :)

conference is coming soon! All the tribal missionaries in the islands come to the center where we have a great time hearing from each other and a guest speaker.
This year I am in charge of the food. Please pray for me as organization and planning in advance are my biggest weaknesses and the biggest need for this job.
It seems everyday I find another reason I should not be in charge of this.

In church tonight I learned that there are several tribal languages that have a word that means to create out of nothing. Obviously they have no reason to use the word as that is an impossible task, outside of God. Before these people learned of God they had no reason to use the word; they had it for seemingly no reason. Many missionaries opt to use this for the name God.

Well, After 8 weeks of travel, I am back home again. I got here the day before Christmas Eve. and between Christmas, New Years and trying to get caught up in work I have been keeping busy. I am about to send out my prayer letter if you want more details, that would be the place to see them :)

I just sent out an update, let me know if you would like to receive my prayer letter. I had a lot of them returned to me this time, so some of you may not have gotten it, even if you usually do.

This is from the Independance Day celabration in September. People dress up in clothes like their people wore long ago and do traditional style dances.

I was talking to a friend today, and she was telling me about her struggle with her husband. He wants her to go to this special church meeting where they are bringing in a special, giant statue of Mary. The people will be able to pray to her and write down prayer requests and give them "to Mary" to take to Rome.

Please be in prayer for my dear friend and sister, Flavia. She and I were talking today; she wants to share some verses with a friend who is trying to kill her husband, to explain via the Bible why that is wrong. In talking about it, I saw the struggle she would face. Flavia will not be able to share the gospel as Flavia's husband will be there. He is not a believer and will beat her very badly. However, how can people change themselves without Christ. She knows she needs to share with them the gospel, but she is still recovering from her last beating.
