Washington University and its board of trustees hold a significant amount of power in St. Louis. We must hold our institution accountable for it's connection to prisons and they ways they perpetuate injustice.

"I am very proud of Andy Taylor's membership on our Board of Trustees and I am grateful for the extraordinary difference he has made for the university and the entire St. Louis region," Wrighton said.
That "difference" should not come at the expense of people facing incarceration.

"Before events in Ferguson, 46% of Americans believed that more changes were necessary to ensure that blacks and whites had equal rights. After a year of protests, the Washington Post found that 60% of Americans think the country needs to change to address racial inequality. Today 53% of whites believe changes must be made, compared to just 39% in 2014...The numerous symbolic actions taken by Black Lives Matter—large marches, die-ins, blocking traffic, and even disrupting the speeches of presidential candidates—have shifted public opinion. These high-profile actions have not necessarily focused on receiving a concession from a particular decision-maker, but have instead tried to draw public attention to the issue of racism and compel ordinary people to take action—or at least choose sides."

Hundreds of protesters are marching from the 4th Precinct to Minneapolis City Hall following a Monday night shooting where 3 suspects allegedly fired into a crowd of Black Lives Matter protesters. Five suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Towson U. president signs students' demands after 8-hour protest in his office
A group of about two dozen black Towson University students brought a list of 13 demands to the school's interim President Timothy Chandler's office Wednesday and reviewed them with him until after midnight, when he pledged to address them.
