🍂First grade went out to enjoy the fall weather and practice their vowel town sounds. Students took turns asking each other to write different sounds, then they tried drawing all of vowel town themselves! 🙌

📚For those unfamiliar with “vowel town” — it’s a tool in the phonics program that helps students make and spell vowel sounds. If you’re around a first grader, ask them to recite vowel town. You’ll be in for a fun treat! If you know an older student, ask them if they can still recite vowel town 😉

We had a blast at Pre-K Discovery Day! We were able to welcome over 140 preschoolers to our campus along with their parents and teachers for a morning of learning through play.

🪄Magician Chef Bananas 🍌 knocked it out of the park with a magic show that had the kids rolling with laughter and amazement. 🫧The kids were amazed with the Bubbles Gone Bananas in the courtyard and explored how to make their own giant bubbles. 🐽 We loved seeing the kids light up while they interacted with and learned about the variety of farm animals -- especially the mini pig from Cowboy Critters Petting Farm & Pony Rides. What a joy it was for our 4th graders to guide the preschoolers through using a larger than life parachute to create resistance, a dome, and a beach ball party! ⛱️

Thanks to everyone who came out for a morning of fun with friends. We're so grateful you were able to make it 😊

🔬A group of Mrs. Ryherd’s middle school students in STEM classes had the opportunity to go to St Louis University to experience a day of Engineering. They first explored a 3D printing lab. 🥼They also experienced a research lab that has various interfaces for people with different abilities. 🧑‍🦯They interacted with a mouse made for people who are blind and a tablet that works by vibration and matches a pattern in Braille. 📱At the lab, there were two different researchers experimenting with tools made for people with disabilities.

🚰Lastly, they saw a system of using waste water to feed algae to turn it into fertilizer — just like you’d throw leaf debris on a garden.

✖️➗➕Our teachers are continuing to work together to strengthen math instruction across every grade level. Here’s a little insight as to what that looks like.

🧠During our latest collaboration time, teachers reviewed their beginning and end-of-year math goals and participated in a vertical alignment gallery walk. They looked across grade levels for overlaps, gaps, and questions—helping us see the bigger picture of our students’ mathematical journey from JK3 through 8th grade.

💪This work will continue at our next late start as we dig deeper into aligning standards and building an even stronger, more connected math experience for our students. We’re grateful for a staff that is willing to collaborate, ask questions, and continually grow for the sake of our students!

🚗🚙🚓🚕Reminder! Tomorrow (Saturday 9/19)is the Affton Lemay parade and we would love for a great turn out and representation of Green Park. Wear your green Known. Loved. Valued. shirts. Be at Bayless Elementary between 8a and 9a. 🚌 A shuttle will take you to Affton High School where the parade will start. You must be lined up by 9:30a. The parade starts at 10a and is typically done around 11:15a.

And remember, those who walk in the parade earn a dress down day! 🎉

One thing about us is we are a team and as a team, we work together 💪. We get put into all sorts of teams throughout the year to achieve various tasks as staff members, assignments as students, and fun things like Faith Families and even events! 🎪

Our 4th graders and Kindergarteners teamed up to practice parachute skills, listening prompts, and teamwork in preparation for hosting Pre-K Discovery Day coming up on Friday. They had so much fun together and can’t wait for Friday’s event with all of the preschool guests 🤩
