Re: Omicron Delta Epsilon - Economics Honor Society. http://www.omicrondeltaepsilon.org/

The Department of Economics invites all eligible students to join ODE. If you meet the admission requirements noted below, and would like to join the Society, please send an email to Nancy Young ([email protected]), our Administrative Assistant in the Economics Department. In the body of your email, simply let Nancy know that you would like to become a member of ODE. In your email to Nancy, please also include: (1) your permanent address, (2) your Banner ID, (3) the year and semester you anticipate graduating, and (4) indicate whether you are a major through the College of Arts & Sciences or the John Cook School of Business.

You will need to submit a check to Nancy, made payable to Omicron Delta Epsilon, in the amount of $40.00. The deadline for submission of fees is Thursday, March 1, 2018. After this deadline has passed, the department will submit a membership application to the Society on behalf of all students who have indicated they would like to join ODE, who meet the requirements, and who have submitted the application fee.

------------------------------------------------------
Omicron Delta Epsilon (ODE) is one of the world's largest academic honor societies. The objectives of ODE are recognition of outstanding scholastic achievements in economics, and the establishment of closer ties between students and faculty in the discipline. The society publishes a journal, The American Economist, organizes panels at professional meetings, and sponsors two student paper competitions: the Irving Fisher and Frank W. Taussig contests.

ODE has well over 500 chapters around the world. Saint Louis University's chapter was established in 1982. Membership in the Society is based strictly on academic achievement. The minimum requirements for admission for undergraduates are:

*Completion of 12 semester hours of economics courses;
*Attainment of at least a "B" average in economics courses and an
*overall "B" average in all classes.
Students do not have to be economics majors, but must have a genuine interest in economics in addition to meeting the above requirements.

Prospective members of ODE pay a life-membership fee of $40.00 upon election to the Society. In return, members receive a membership card, scroll, and free on-line access to The American Economist.

Omicron Delta Epsilon - The International Economics Honor Society Omicron Delta Epsilon is an International Economics Honor Society accredited by the Association of College Honor Societies ACHS

Be sure to register by February 16 for the Women in Economics Symposium at the St. Louis Fed!

The Symposium will be held Thursday, February 22!

Women in Economics Symposium | St. Louis, Mo. 12/08/2017

Did you know that:
· In the US, only about 13% of academic economists in permanent posts are women.
· Only one woman has ever won the Nobel Prize in economics - American Elinor Ostrom in 2009.
· And there wasn't even a single woman on some of the lists floating about guessing who this year's prize winner would be - it went to the behavioral economist Richard Thaler.

I want to let you know about a special event we will be hosting at the St. Louis Fed on February 22, from 3:30 to 7:45 – Women in Economics Symposium. The event is intended for undergraduate and graduate students majoring in economics. The evening will include panels, networking, food, and special presentations by prominent economists (Mary Daly and Ellen Zentner).
