I thought I would throw some cards on what to expect this week related to the government shut down.

I chose the tower card as a focus card to represent the government. And the energy around this spread feels heavy.

To the left of the tower, we have the Stars card, which is all about our wishes and dreams, and our beliefs and ideals. So it’s kind of like a flicker of hope. It represents the fact that we believe that good can come out of this situation if there is bipartisan cooperation. What we as a people truly value. And also, as hard as this is to hear, it’s asking us to trust our community leaders to work on behalf of our highest good. It’s that small light in the dark, you know what I mean?

To the right of the tower, we have the Tree, representing health, deep roots, sustainability, and as a timing card it means quite literally, a long time. You cannot see a tree grow day by day. You can only see the growth year over year. So the timing feels very long here. Interesting that the health card showed up here since the center focus of this fight is over tax credits that are expiring for people who use the marketplace for their insurance. One side wants them extended, the other side says they’ll fix it later, let’s just get the government open.

It’s also interesting that this showed up because with the government being closed people have lost their food assistance. So the nourishment and wellness that the tree represents. Going back to timing. The tree suggests that any forward movement this week will come very slowly.

And I threw a clarity Card here and it’s the Cross. It’s about emotional things. It’s sorrow, it’s grief, it’s a burden that’s resting on shoulders. It’s the American people who are missing paychecks, workers who are still showing up to do their job even though they won’t be compensated anytime soon. That’s a huge burden. The Cross can also represent faith as a reminder that patience and endurance will eventually lead us to renewal.

So to wrap it up, it does NOT look like the government will reopen this week. The Tower shows us exactly what’s crumbling and the Stars remind us that we should keep believing. The Tree tells us to stay steadfast, and the Cross is asking us not to give up faith.
