The 1G Collective would like to take this time to commemorate Alex McCray. Alex was a First-Generation student at Fontbonne University studying to become a Social Worker. His deep passion for helping others was paralleled by his leadership, bravery, and intelligence. His presence and messages of acceptance and love touched the lives of many. We are deeply grateful for the time we had with Alex and are proud that he was part of our 1G community. Let us carry on his love.

Time for another 1G Collective Student Spotlight!

This is J'von Halbert, a freshmen student majoring in English for Secondary Education! He is already serving as a leader on campus by starting our Creative Writing Club, starring in theater productions, and becoming a Student Ambassador!

We asked J'von, "What is something you’ve learned as a First-generation college student in college so far that you would like future First-Gens to know?"

His response was, "Something that I've learned as a First-Gen student at Fontbonne that I'd like to share is, to not be afraid to ask for help. Everyone here at Fontbonne is so nice, and they are so willing to help students out as long as we seek the help."

Keep up the great work, J'von!

Why some of us don't have one true calling 09/26/2018

What do you want to be when you grow up? Well, if you're not sure you want to do just one thing for the rest of your life, you're not alone. In this illuminating talk, writer and artist Emilie Wapnick describes the kind of people she calls "multipotentialites" -- who have a range of interests and jobs over one lifetime. Are you one?
