Before & After: Student Design Concepts for a Mid-Century Home
We are excited to share some of the design concepts from our first-year STLCC Interior Design students!
After meeting with the client, Donna Werner, and learning about her mid-century Fournier home, this talented group of students began developing creative design concepts that honor the home’s original architecture while reflecting Donna’s lifestyle today.
Drawing inspiration from Mid-Century Modern design, travel, music, and pet-friendly living for Gracie & Pete, students brought thoughtful and unique ideas to the project.
Here are a few of the student designs from this exciting collaboration! Thank you, Donna, for this amazing opportunity.

STLCC Interior Design students in the Design Communication course kicked off their final project in the best way—by meeting their client in person!
We were excited to welcome Donna Werner, a retired Philosophy and Ethics professor at STLCC, into the classroom. She shared her vision, lifestyle, and what truly matters to her at home. She gave students the chance to ask questions and dive deep into the design challenge.
The challenge? Reimagine her mid-century Fournier home into a space that reflects her life today, while honoring its original character.
With this project, inspiration is everywhere:
• Mid-Century Modern design
• Ralph Fournier’s iconic architectural style
• Donna’s love of travel and Eric Church concerts
• And of course… her pups, Gracie & Pete
This is where the design process begins, and now it’s our turn to bring it all to life.
Stay tuned for creative ideas and stunning before & after transformations from this talented group of students!
