South City Community School PK3—8th grade independent school. Louis area. Our mission is to intentionally reflect the people of St. Louis.

South City Community School is a PK3-8th grade school located near the west entrance of Tower Grove Park, just off of Kingshighway. We serve families who live primarily within a few miles of Tower Grove Park—zip codes where education for young children is one of the highest felt needs, according to demographic studies, but we also have many families who commute from a variety of locations in the greater St. Louis’ south side by being a community that draws in families from all ethnic heritages and income levels. As a Christian school, we are a unique option for families who desire a faith-based school specifically, or for families who may or may not come from a faith background but are otherwise struggling to find an educational option in St. Louis that provides the positive, supportive, life-giving school experience they are seeking for their child. We offer our students relational connection and engagement with the world through a curriculum rich in the humanities. Our Charlotte Mason approach values delight in learning, living books, and engagement with the world of culture and nature (our children enjoy regular enrichment trips to local museums, nature centers and more throughout their time at SCCS). Our teachers incorporate trauma-informed, attachment promoting practices into their classrooms to support students socially and emotionally as well as academically. As we enter into the second decade since our founding, we see growing evidence that we are meeting an important need in our corner of St. Our enrollment is growing, our partnerships are strengthening, and we are excited for the steps ahead as we deepen our roots here in the City of St.

Join our Head of School for a Parent Coffee on Friday, October 23, beginning after morning drop-off. We’ll open the conversation around topics that can sometimes feel a little “taboo” in schools—school finances, philanthropy, giving priorities, and Charlotte’s Fund. Come learn more about how our school is funded, why philanthropy matters, and how generosity supports the SCCS community.

🍂 A Little Piece of Nature, Right in Our Classroom! 🌿

A Nature Study table is a space for curiosity, discovery, and wonder! Throughout the year, each classroom table fills with treasures collected by our students as they explore Tower Grove Park, our own neighborhood block, and even our playground.

From colorful leaves and interesting rocks to acorns, seedpods, and other tiny treasures, each discovery invites our students to slow down, observe, ask questions, and connect with the natural world around them.

At SCCS, we believe that some of the most meaningful learning begins with a child's curiosity. 🌱

✨ What does chapel look like at SCCS?

Each week, our students, teachers, faculty, and families gather to sing, learn, worship, and grow together.

This year, we’re journeying through The Psalms—helping students discover what they teach us about the character of God and how they give us words to pray in every season of life. Students also have opportunities to lead chapel themselves through songs, readings, artwork, dramatic presentations, and more.

Our hope is that what students encounter in chapel becomes something they carry far beyond their years at SCCS: a deeper knowledge of God, a love for His Word, and a lifelong model for prayer. 💛
