Auditions in the theatre will start promptly at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7 and Thursday, Oct. 8.

Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.

SYNOPSIS: In 2008 in Reading, PA, one of the poorest cities in America, a group of down-and-out factory workers struggle to keep their present lives in balance, ignorant of the financial devastation looming in their near future. Based on Nottage’s extensive research and interviews with real residents of Reading, Sweat is a topical reflection of the present and the poignant outcome of America’s economic decline.

Meet Student Director TJ Shay. He Directs LOCKED AND LOADED, CAN I HELP YOU? by David Ives.

"I believe that theater is the final frontier when it comes to expression without censorship. There are very few other places in the world where you can make a commentary on any issue: societal, environmental, political, economic, and people have no choice but to observe. The issue of gun violence is one that has plagued this nation for a very long time, it has claimed countless lives and will continue to claim countless more unless change occurs. This issue has, historically, been hotly debated by people of all backgrounds and experiences. There have also been countless depictions of this issue, in various mediums and through various forms of expression. This depiction is different. Brought to life through the paint provided by David Ives, with the brushes I have given to the cast and crew, and the canvas you the audience now provide to them. We shall paint a new call to this issue together, as a uniform voice. I thank you for your undivided attention, and hope that one day we no longer live in fear."

Meet Student Director, Carrington C. Davis. She directs EMILY DICKINSON ENTERS INTO HEAVEN by David Ives.

"Emily Dickinson Enters Into Heaven, despite all its comedy, is an inherently tragic play to me. Three influential beings known so much for their work that they become trapped by their fame in a never ending purgatory. Put up on mantels like boxed figurines, never opened and never allowed to play like they were intended to. Only to be admired alone until the end of time by an absent god.

When looking for inspirations in my creative process in coming up with this concept I turned to two things, media and music. The main song sticking out to me is “Hotel California” by the Eagles. The quote “We are all just prisoners here. Of our own devices,” being something I wanted to highlight, even if it’s lightly, in my play. This song was brought to me when I was collaborating with my mother on the beginning stages of my production. I wanted the audience to feel like a fly on the wall when watching my show. A sort of Twilight zone picture this reality scenario. That upon the beginning, you as the audience member feel as Emily does when she enters, confused and curious. Confused by the music that played beforehand, curious about the way the cast enters, confused on the afterlife these characters live in, but curious to learn."
