UMSL senior Matt Garland won’t graduate until December, but he’s already landed a job he loves, working as a QA analyst at Weissman.

It all started with a tour organized by UMSL alum Greg Shafer, who saw Matt’s potential during a class project and helped connect him with the opportunity. Add in support from passionate faculty like Brian Lawton, and you get a career that’s already taking off.

The Student Investment Trust just passed $1 million in portfolio value.

It started with just $8,800 in 1988. Today, students from three trading groups (value, technical, and algorithmic) are outpacing the market!

One student-led trade alone netted nearly $19K in profit. And that was just the start.

UMSL’s Beta Alpha Psi chapter earns top awards at annual national meeting - UMSL Daily 09/16/2025

Our Gamma Psi chapter of Beta Alpha Psi made another great impact at this year’s national meeting in San Antonio. They earned Superior recognition for their work with the VITA program, one of only eight chapters nationwide to do so. The group also connected with students and professionals from across the country through presentations, competitions, and service.

A proud UMSL accounting alumna, Kerrie balanced three jobs while completing her degree and Honors College coursework, setting the stage for a successful career. Starting as a teller, she has advanced to senior credit underwriter and is now a strong advocate for recruiting local talent from UMSL.

She represented UMSL at the Transportation Research Board Conference in Washington, D.C., and attended the prestigious Urban Logistics Summer School in Belgium.
