“The art of the half sword (Stretta di Mezza Spada) is essential to the understanding of anyone who wants to be a good fencer. If one knows only how to fence in the wide play, and he was pressed, he would be forced in disgrace and peril to retreat, thereby placing victory in the hands of the enemy, or at least making his ignorance of the art plainly obvious to those watching.” Antonio Manciolino
