Saint Louis University Communication Department Alumni Rebecca (Becca) Fortune had the incredible opportunity to compete on Season 4 of The Great American Baking Show- a U.S. spinoff of the beloved Great British Bake Off. With all the same judges and challenges, as well as being filmed in England, this was quite the exquisite journey.

Becca grew up baking and watching Food Network and always found it to be an enjoyable and relaxing activity. If her friends or family needed bakery items for a holiday she was their girl. Her loved ones agreed she would be a perfect fit for the show, so she applied twice. Once in 2024 when she made it to callbacks, and then again in 2025 when she finally got the phone call that she had successfully landed her spot in the tent. Becca was elated.

Becca works as a Senior Account Executive for an agency in Chicago that was happy to give her time off to explore this journey. Not only this, but her agency skills surprisingly helped her in the competition. Her biggest piece of advice for students especially in communications is “not to feel like you have to have it all figured out.” She feels it is important to “open your mind to all opportunities and get comfortable in the uncomfortable.” Becca encourages people to keep pursuing their passions and strive towards a greater goal.

SLU played a role in this journey, for Becca feels it was a key factor in giving her the strength to fly across the country and live somewhere new. “The Jesuit education in me knows values mean everything,” she said. She was able to create such wonderful relationships that the contestants from the show are flying into Chicago for her wedding and baking her dessert table this Fall.

Though this is not the end of Becca’s journey, it sure is a wonderful start. Becca encourages others to keep on doing what they love as she will too.

Follow to keep up with her journey on all platforms and stream Season 4 of The Great American Baking Show on the Roku Channel on May 11, 2026.

P.S., Andrew Rannells and Casey Wilson were just as lovely in real life.
