The MOCHE board is thrilled to welcome new member Stacy Benson from the Truman Library Institute! We asked Stacy to tell us a little about her background with history education. Welcome, Stacy!
Q: Tell us about your teaching experience.
A: I taught middle school American history for over a decade in public and private schools in Shawnee Mission, Kansas, and Kansas City, Missouri.
Q: What do you love about social studies?
A: I love bringing primary resources to life. Today, I love working with our amazing team at the Truman Library Institute, designing museum programs that connect historic events to modern civic engagement.
Q: What advice do you give first-year teachers?
A: Breathe. The first year is intense, and you won't get it all right. Connect with a mentor, laugh outside of the classroom, and share all your stories. That is the connection, and that is how we all learn.
Q: What are your hopes for the future?
A: I love my job. I am privileged to connect with committed educators and shining students every week. My hope is that teachers and students nationwide can connect with the programs offered at the Truman Presidential Library & Museum. Schools need community partners, and we are all ready and willing to partner and serve.
