It was exciting to see some familiar faces at the SLU Alumni Gathering in Washington D.C. this week during the annual American Psychological Association Conference. In attendance were current and former students and faculty from several of our graduate programs!

The CHEER Lab is on the move! This week Dr. Madeline Stenersen and Clinical PhD students Christina Duval and Zoe Schultz are in Washington D.C. presenting at the annual convention of the American Psychological Association (APA)! Christina presented her study results entitled Social-Emotional Competence Strengthens Training in Trauma-Informed Care. Zoe presented her study results entitled Growing Up Q***r: Childhood Adversity and Age of Coming Out. Dr. Stenersen is serving as this convention's program chair for APA Division 52 - the Society for Global Psychology.

Congratulations to Dr. Madeline Stenersen and Clinical Ph.D. Student Shea Heckman for their recent attendance and presentation at the Asia Region Anti-Trafficking (ARAT) conference in Chiang Mai, Thailand! Dr. Stenersen presented in collaboration with Urban Light Thailand on their recent efforts to implement and evaluate game-based learning for children at risk of trafficking in the form of an Anti-Human Trafficking Card Game and also a soccer-based life skills program funded by the FIFA Foundation. While in the country Dr. Stenersen and Shea also conducted research activities and met with current collaborators from Chiang Mai University (over some great Thai food!).

The Psychological Services Center (PSC) in the Psychology Department has received another award from the St. Louis City Mental Health Board to provide free psychological evaluations for St. Louis City residents for the next three years! The PSC also received additional donor funding to provide free therapy and psychological evaluation services to SLU students. Congratulations to Dr. Burch Laura and the Psychological Services Center!

Janet Kuebli, Ph.D. and Krista Braun (Experimental Psychology Ph.D. Student) presented a poster last week at the Jean Piaget Society Conference in Ottawa! The Jean Piaget Society focuses on the study of Knowledge and Development and holds an annual conference as part of their mission. Congratulations!

Congratulations to Dr. Janet Kuebli for receiving the Robert A Johnston, SJ Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching in Social Sciences! Dr. Kuebli is beloved member of the psychology department and has spent many years mentoring undergraduates. As undergraduate coordinator, she started the annual capstone symposium. Congratulations!

Last week during the Midwest Psychological Association’s annual conference, the department celebrated its 100th anniversary with faculty, students, and alumni! A similar celebration will be held during SIOP next week (link in bio to register)
