What an honor to start our season with rising star classical guitarist from the UK, Jack Hancher - Guitarist! 🙌 Jack began his time in St. Louis by performing live on the radio and television. Thank you so much to Kathy Lawton Brown with Classic 107.3 - Radio Arts Foundation and My St. Louis LIVE on KMOV for having us in the studio in promotion of the concert.

Jack Hancher kicked off the 2026-27 concert season on Saturday night, as well as our return to the Ethical Society of St. Louis for the first time since 2021! We are so thrilled to be back in the wonderful acoustics of the Ethical Society's unique hall.
Jack's program included works from his new album "Muse" out now on Deux-Elles Classical Recordings. Compositions included piano pieces arranged by the performer himself, by Debussy, Mompou, Ravel, Satie, and Albeniz. What a treat to hear these impressionist classics on the guitar! 🌹

The master class on Sunday included three performers, Sasha Pyatkivskyy, Jonah Rosenthal, and William Ash, performing works by Bach, Sor and Britten respectively. Bravo on a wonderful class! 👏

Congratulations to Vincent Badami, winner of the 2026 Marton L. Carroll Guitar Grant! 👏
Vincent is a senior at Oakville High School and an advanced student of W Mark Akin. With this award, our grantee was gifted a concert-quality instrument made by esteemed local luthier Keith Adams, funded by Marton L. Carroll. Vincent visited Keith Adams' studio in August to try out guitars and ultimately choose his new beautiful instrument to take home.
We are so excited for Vincent, a regular performer in our master classes and Open Stage! His talent and dedication is very apparent, as he has worked hard and mastered works by Bach, Andrew York, and more.

Described by Gramophone Magazine as a guitarist with “youthful intensity tempered by sophisticated musical intelligence”, Jack Hancher is a unique voice of the classical guitar. Jack's second album "Muse" will be released on September 18, 2026 (one day before the concert!) on the Deux-Elles label. The record will feature his arrangements of piano works by Debussy, Ravel, Satie, Mompou and Albéniz alongside works written for guitar by Falla and José.

A free master class with Mr. Hancher will take place on Sunday, September 20 at 3:00pm at the Ethical Society. St. Louis area guitar students will perform.
