Another beautiful run at Creve Coeur Lake with a friend! It is so pretty, and even better when the weather is this nice!

Week 34 of the Squeaky Chicken Mile took me to one of my favorite small towns: Hermann, Missouri 🐔🍷

This week I ran through downtown Hermann, passing some of my favorite restaurants, shops, wineries, distilleries, museums, and historic buildings along the way.

One of my favorite things about this series is that it gives me an excuse to explore places I love from a different perspective. Most people tour Hermann by car, trolley, bike, or wine shuttle. I prefer the chicken-powered method. 🐔🏃‍♀️

As I ran, I shared some of my favorite spots and talked about what makes Hermann such a fun place to visit. Whether you're there for the history, the food, the wine, or just to wander around downtown, there's always something interesting to discover.

That's a big part of why I keep doing these miles. They're not really about running one mile anymore. They're about making running fun, exploring new places, and turning ordinary workouts into little adventures.

And yes, the mission continues:

What's your favorite small town to visit? Or if you've been to Hermann, what's your favorite stop there?

Another awesome speedwork session from Big River Running. Yesterday we tested ourselves with a mile time trial.

Everyone CRUSHED IT! It was so cool to see everyone get out there and give it their all. Also, the guy that I was shorts twinning with on Tuesday in duckie shorts WAS TWINNING WITH ME AGAIN!!! This time in penguins. 🤣 Twice in a row and in the same week. Too funny!

As down as I have been feeling with my current health struggles, I was super happy I was able to push a 6:25, and I still had some in the tank, so that is a good sign. It is disappointing because I should be pushing for a sub-6 right now, and I can't. My pace on a flat track is slower than my pace was on hilly roads just a few months ago. Isn't that wild? Sometimes life throws you a curveball. I am just super thankful I can still get out, run, move, and have fun doing it! It is okay to feel disappointed, but it is also so worth it to be grateful for what I CAN do! And of course, this too shall pass. I'll be back to 100% and pushing for the next big PR before I know it! 💗

I also picked up my summer speedwork singlet! It rocks! Can't wait to wear it!

I missed a session to go to my niece's dance recital, and one got canceled due to bad weather, but we're back, baby!

We did 5x 800m with a 400m jog rest interval, and 2-4 x 200m with a 200m rest interval. A good day out on the track!

Had to wear my rubber duckies! I even had a rubber duckie shorts twin, but he was in a different group 🦆 I still yelled at him and got a confused look until he realized we had the same shorts 🤣

I said it before, and I will say it again: this is incredibly well organized. There are a ton of people on the track at once, and you don't even really notice it because we're organized by pace and on a well-timed staggered start. I never felt like we were running over other groups or being run over by other groups, and we don't stop moving (except to get a quick drink!) Big River Running Company is crushing it with this, and IT IS FREE!! So if you are interested in working on your speed at any pace, go check out their website, register, and come on out!

Seeing my 800 splits so slow is rough, but I am dealing with some health issues, and I would much rather slow down than stop. I want to talk about it openly, but I haven't gotten confirmation on what exactly it is (though I am almost certain it is low ferritin and possibly also anemia), so when I'm feeling up to it, I'll make a video about my symptoms and whatever this journey of figuring it out is!

Met up with another runner out at Creve Coeur Lake yesterday for a loop of the lake! It was so nice out, I stayed for a second solo loop. I have to say it was such a welcome change to run with another person and just gab while we went. The deer, squirrels, geese, birds, and bugs were all out! It was a busy day out there for sure. The weather was SO nice, especially under the trees. I gotta run out there more often.

When you're so ADHD, your whole workout recap is a bunny

To be fair, he is hella cute. So enjoy 3 minutes of me filming a baby bunny at the conclusion of each rep 🤣 I can't believe he stayed the whole time! He did hop back into the brush at one point, but he was back out by the time I returned.

Honestly, I was riding the struggle bus HARDDDDD on this workout, and this little ray of sunshine was just what I needed to carry me through. Sometimes, it is the little things that matter most.

What helps you push through when you're having a rough workout? 👇

I'm a week behind on editing, but here is the tiniest glimpse of Summer Speedwork put on by Big River running! I forgot to take any vids until we were done 😬 oops! But honestly, it was nice to focus on the running. I was skeptical about having this many people on the track at once, but it went so smoothly and is so well managed! It is also FREE! So come on out and start your speed work this summer! All the info is on Big River's website.

Week 33 of the Squeaky Chicken Mile is a special one 🐔🏃‍♀️

🏅 St. Louis will host the 2028 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials!

To celebrate, I headed to the WashU campus and ran from the main campus down to the Olympic Rings!

As a runner, it's hard not to get excited about having one of the biggest events in American distance running coming to our city. The Marathon Trials represent years of dedication, hard work, and chasing big goals. Now, St. Louis gets to be part of that story again after 124 years!

Of course, my contribution to the celebration involved running there in a squeaky chicken suit. 😂

That's what the Squeaky Chicken Mile is all about: finding fun reasons to run, celebrating the running community, and proving that running doesn't always have to be serious to be meaningful.

And yes, the campaign continues:

If you could watch ANY running event in person, what would it be? The Olympic Marathon Trials, the Olympics, Boston, NYC, your local track meet, or something else?

Week 32 of the Squeaky Chicken Mile took me to the track! 🐔🏃‍♀️

This week's mile was the warm-up run before the track meet with runners from Spewak, Dogtown, and Run It Back. There's just something special about getting a bunch of runners together, whether they're there to race, cheer, volunteer, or simply enjoy being part of the community.

Of course, this wouldn't be a Squeaky Chicken Mile without a little chaos.

I had some technical difficulties and ended up joining the warm-up a lap late, so I had to get creative to finish my mile. The final quarter mile involved running around the outside of the track and then heading up the hill to get back in time to watch the races. 😂

Honestly, that's one of the reasons I keep doing these miles. They aren't really about the distance anymore. They're about finding ways to make running fun, explore new places, and celebrate the running community.

And this week was a great reminder that running is about more than just your own workout. It's about showing up for each other, cheering people on, and sharing the experience.

Oh, and I'm still waiting for ChicknLegs to make a squeaky chicken pattern outfit. The campaign continues. 🐔👀

What's your favorite part of a race or track meet? The running, the cheering, or just hanging out with the running community afterward?

Global Running Day + a 5K at Creve Coeur Lake = a pretty great way to spend an evening 🏃‍♀️🥒

This year's Big Run 5K was much more comfortable than last year's. Last year it was 93°F. This year? A much friendlier 81°F. ☀️

The funny thing is that despite the cooler weather, I ended up about 6 seconds per mile slower than last year. But honestly, I'm not surprised. I did speedwork the day before, my training has been a little off lately, and some days you just run with what you've got.

The good news:
🥒 Pickle print ChicknLegs were deployed
🏅 1st in my age group
🏃‍♀️ 7th female overall
🌅 Beautiful evening at Creve Coeur Lake
😄 Had an absolute blast

Running isn't always about setting a PR. Sometimes it's about showing up, racing hard, seeing friends, and celebrating a sport you love.

And on Global Running Day, that feels like a win to me.
