Who was your favorite teacher growing up? What if you could call them when you were having a tough learning moment?
I personalize my lessons with these questions in mind. I consider my students personality preferences - Meyers Briggs, Enneagram, DISC. And I adjust our class exercises.
Next week I’m sharing these exercises for critique. Thankful for my knowledgeable friends in the personality realm 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Let your imagination run free. What’s your biggest, boldest dream? Put words and an image to it.
^ This is one of my favorite conversation starters with a student. I get a glimpse into their world, their flame — and that fuels our sessions 🔥🔥🔥

Teens come to my tutoring sessions expecting to conform to MY way of teaching. I prefer to ask about their experience and for them to shape our lessons.
“How was our class workload last week?”
“Good.”
“Good like you managed it? Good like it was easy? Good like you got it done but put other things aside? Good like you finished it and it was just whatever?... How was your experience last week?”
And so the conversation goes until I can understand how they’re thriving and how they’re struggling. When a struggle comes up, we have a conversation about priorities, and I ask my students to draw a boundary in their life.
It’s often a SMALL boundary - around the way that they use their time, emotional energy, or physical space - that will make a key difference in their stress level.

In my lessons, I want exercises to be simple enough for a 3rd grader to do, but with nuances that bring up realizations for my teen students.

Set a personal goal. Craft your own project. My tutoring sessions are encouraging and free range and challenging.
