Children being themselves is one of my favorite medicines.
Little Island LLC
Little Island is a nurturing, inclusive in-home childcare rooted in play, emotional growth & anti-colonial care. Let’s raise a better world—together.
We honor each child’s autonomy while building lasting connections with families.
As I prepare to open fall applications for Little Island, I want to pause and share who I am and what I offer in this space.
Choosing childcare is not just about schedules or availability. It is about trust. It is about who your child spends their days with, who holds them when they are overwhelmed, and who helps shape their sense of safety in the world.
Little Island is not just childcare. It is a second home. A safe haven. A place where children are known, respected, and cared for as whole humans.
I am a trauma informed caregiver who understands how early experiences shape nervous systems, emotional regulation, and long term wellbeing. I pay close attention to how stress, fear, and unmet needs show up in children’s behavior. I respond with guidance, care, and consistency rather than punishment or control.
I am also deeply aware of how race, class, ability, and identity shape the way children move through the world. As a white caregiver, I take responsibility for staying conscious, reflective, and accountable in how I show up. Inclusion here is not a buzzword. It is a daily practice.
At Little Island, children are supported in growing resilience, emotional awareness, and trust in themselves. We talk about feelings. We practice repair. We honor autonomy and consent in age appropriate ways. Children are allowed to have boundaries and to learn how to respect the boundaries of others.
This is a real life space. There are animals here. Children learn how to be around them with care, gentleness, and clear boundaries. There is dirt, mud, water, paint, grass, and garden time. Getting messy is part of learning. Play clothes are encouraged.
This is not a quiet or sterile environment. It is a place where children move their bodies, use their voices, ask questions, and explore. It is a place where curiosity is welcomed and behavior is treated as communication.
I hold clear, calm boundaries while honoring children’s dignity. Children are guided, not managed.
