Summer break looks good on the Billiken. 😎
While campus is a little quieter these days, we're already looking forward to welcoming our students back to Tegeler Hall. Until then, we'll be taking notes from the Billiken and enjoying a slower summer pace.

Faculty in the spotlight!
Congratulations to Dr. Kenya Brumfield-Young, Assistant Professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice, who was recently quoted in Newsweek discussing the viral phenomenon known as “teen takeovers” and the broader conversations surrounding youth behavior, public spaces, and community responses. Her expert insights were also featured through MSN and Yahoo! News syndication, bringing important criminological perspectives to a national audience.
"Teen takeovers" are spreading and police are bracing for a violent summer
With stabbings, arrests, and even death, teen takeovers are escalating fast. Should we be bracing for the summer?

We’re thrilled to celebrate Dr. Cooper-Sadlo and our BSSW students in the Social Work Practice with Groups course for being honored with an annual Community Partner Award for their continued support of the Saint Louis Crisis Nursery.
Since 2022, students in this course have partnered with the Crisis Nursery, raising an incredible $8,043, along with goods and clothing donations, to support children and families in our community.
Students Lancelot Williams and Jack Benson proudly accepted the award on behalf of their class and Dr. Cooper-Sadlo.
We also want to recognize Brooks Klefstad, who was named Practicum Student of the Year for his outstanding work with the Crisis Nursery’s City Outreach Center and North County Nursery.
We are grateful for this meaningful partnership and the impact our students continue to make.

Starting college can feel overwhelming — but sometimes, all you need is someone to talk to.
School of Social Work faculty member Dr. Shannon Cooper-Sadlo is helping new SLU students navigate the transition to college life through her first-year seminar, “Conversations with a Mom, but not Your Mom.” From homesickness to building confidence and connection, the course creates space for students to feel supported during their first year on campus.
We’re proud to see Dr. Cooper-Sadlo’s care, mentorship, and dedication to students highlighted in this SLU NewsLink story.
