🩻 Radiology Lab Spotlight 🩻

This week in radiology lab, our Veterinary Technology students practiced the core principles of diagnostic imaging using a variety of objects brought from home. Students worked through the full imaging process, including:

• Measuring object thickness
• Selecting appropriate kVp and mAs settings
• Positioning and centering
• Proper collimation
• Radiation safety and image quality evaluation

It’s always fun to see how everyday objects appear on radiographs — and these images definitely sparked some conversation in lab. 👀

Think you can identify the objects from their radiographs? Drop your guesses below! 👇

Urinalysis is one of the most valuable diagnostic tools in veterinary medicine. Students learn how to properly prepare urine samples for testing, including centrifuging, evaluating clarity and color, running chemistry strips, and examining sediment under the microscope.

These skills help future veterinary technicians identify infections, crystals, kidney changes, hydration status, and so much more — all from a simple sample.

Exotic patients are not a novelty.
They’re part of modern veterinary medicine.

Reptiles require species-specific handling, temperature awareness, stress minimization, and an understanding of anatomy that looks very different from a dog or cat.

We prepare students to approach these cases with knowledge — not hesitation.

Because when a snake, gecko, or dragon presents in practice, confidence matters.

In feline and canine radiology lab, our students practice proper patient positioning and radiographic technique to produce diagnostic-quality images while prioritizing radiation safety.

Learning how to safely restrain and position patients is a foundational skill in veterinary medicine — and our students are building that confidence step by step. 🐾

**Students were practicing positioning and restraint for training purposes and wear full PPE (including gloves) when actively taking radiographs.

Surgery is never a one-person job.

Veterinary technicians play a critical role in:
• Case preparation
• Instrument setup and sterile technique
• Anesthesia monitoring
• Surgical assistance
• Patient recovery

Our students are building these skills through structured, hands-on collaboration with faculty and veterinarians. Students work through case discussions, review diagnostics, confirm plans, and then transition into sterile surgical roles alongside the veterinarian.

This is what real surgical teamwork looks like.

Campus animals are part of the curriculum.
Rumi is the syllabus.

Currently: vibing RN.
Later: launching at insects like rent is due.

We prepare students for real-world reptile medicine —
including the dramatic shift from “zen statue” to “apex predator.”

Large-animal skills are a valuable part of our veterinary technology curriculum. Students learn to approach, halter, lead, and examine horses safely and confidently. These labs help students expand their skill set and understand the broader veterinary field.

Today’s focus: vascular access.

Students practiced:
• Jugular venipuncture
• Cephalic venipuncture
• Lateral saphenous IV catheter placement

Understanding anatomy, proper restraint, vein stabilization, and aseptic technique are essential components of safe patient care.

Confidence comes from repetition — and repetition happens here.
