These past three snow days in my area have made me appreciate one of the many benefits of providing my reading and spelling instruction virtually rather than in person. Both my students and myself were able to stay home and safe off the icy, snowy roads. Students didn’t have to miss instruction and everyone could stay cozy and warm at home!

Contact me today if you also want your child to receive reading and/or spelling instruction from the comfort of your own home.

Cognitive Load and Dyslexia 11/15/2024

Read the article below to have a better understanding of cognitive load. Children who struggle with reading and spelling struggle with a higher cognitive load when doing these tasks. This leads to fatigue and poor emotional regulation when pushed too hard too fast. We do a lot of repetition and review in our tutoring sessions to help these tasks become more automatic and lessen the cognitive load. That is also why we take little brain breaks during our sessions to alleviate this stress and help them to continue to access the information being taught without being overwhelmed. https://literacytutoringse.wixsite.com/literacytutoring/post/cognitive-load-and-dyslexia?fbclid=IwY2xjawGfH5dleHRuA2FlbQIxMAABHesDArKuDj8vY2xaNgv9PaFUZSzGXxHcQkNVckdW1uIp6YL16cPSbFlr7A_aem_89LL60VyfbmNJAAklW73Mw

🌎💙 Happy World Kindness Day! 💙🌎

Today, let’s celebrate the power of kindness—not just in our words and actions but in how we understand each other. Each of us learns and grows in unique ways, and kindness means respecting those differences.

Whether we’re visual, hands-on, or verbal learners, whether we take small steps or big leaps, let’s support each other on our journeys. Growth doesn’t look the same for everyone, and that’s what makes each person’s path so incredible.

Today, be kind by recognizing the many ways we all learn and thrive. Let’s lift each other up and celebrate every step forward—no matter how big or small! ✨

Learning how to divide multi-syllable words into individual syllables can be a key strategy in students being able to decode longer words. Many students are hesitant to use this skill at first because they feel like it is going to take them longer, and they instead try to guess at the word. Guessing in the end usually ends up actually taking longer and is more frustrating guessing again and again and still not getting the correct word.

Dot-Dot-Karate Chop to read the word correctly the first time!
